Our Dining Room is just off our kitchen, with an open floor plan. In this home in Vancouver, Washington, we do not have a formal dining room as we have always been accustomed to. The builders here are doing away with them but I truly miss it. However, I love the open floor plan and the flow for entertaining and for spending our evenings together as a family.
Here is some info on my table and chairs and how I painted them:
I found the table and chairs years ago when we lived in Waco, TX on Craigslist. I refinished the top with grey stain and let it dry. Then I took small amounts of black and white acrylic paint and mixed it with a little water and wiped it in streaks with a rag, in the direction of the grain of the wood until it looked weathered or distressed. After completely letting it dry, I used clear polyacrylic sealer (with a really good brush that wouldn’t shed) in a satin finish, 2 coats (let the first coat dry for several hours before applying the next coat), and let it dry overnight with a fan so that it hardened.
I painted the bottom part of the table and also the chairs “Woodrow Wilson Presidential White” in a satin finish. This color is by Valspar and found at Lowe’s. The seats are just covered in a satin-thread ivory home fabric. Use a fabric protector on them and spot clean them from time to time. They will last years.

On the opposite end of the window and dining table, I have a buffet and mirror. I found the mirror at a store a few years ago and spray-painted it gold (it was silver).
Here is the chandelier that I hung above our table below, along with a couple of less expensive options.
