Our new home should be ready in just 5 weeks!  {squeal}  So, while everything is in storage, I’m also stockpiling home decor and furniture so that I’m ready to go when we close on the house.  I had a new bench arrive today and loved it so I thought I would share.  I’m also sharing some others from my home and others that I love so let’s talk about how to pick benches for your home.

This is Giorgio’s little corner over here (or so he thinks…wink).  I figured I would just set this new bench by the window where the sunlight pours in.  It’s called the Abilene Fabric Storage Ottoman by Christopher Knight Home.  Although it sells at other online stores, I bought it at Target and it’s on sale right now for 25% off through the weekend. The price there is so much better, plus it’s on sale.  And then, of course, if you have your Target RedCard you get free shipping and an extra 5% off!  You just can’t beat that!

I love the pretty turned legs and the natural wood frame.  The fabric is a really pretty natural linen (light ivory) color even though the online picture also shows a light grey color.  So keep that in mind. It’s so pretty though with a rug like this with grey tones.  It’s perfect for my neutral color palette.

It’s perfect for storing blankets in, as the top opens up (attached hinges inside along back), for anything else you need to store.   It’s a beautiful piece and I thought the quality is really good.

How To Pick Benches For Your Home

So here are a few tips on deciding if a the bench is a good choice.  Make sure the bench is:

•functional for the space needed

•fits the size of the space (not too big and not too small)

•flows well in the space it’s going in

•practical, considering the age of person it is for

•durable and well-constructed

•NOT a “catch-all” for clothing or dirty laundry (too common)

Especially if you’re short on space or if you just want to hide blankets or magazines or pillows or dvd’s….it’s a great piece and very practical.

It’s no secret…..I love pink.  People tell me all the time that when they see something beautiful that’s pink or sparkles, they think of me.  I just love that.  My birthday is June 23rd and guess what day that is also?  National Pink Day!! I mean, does God know me or what?! Ha! I think he has a fun sense of humor.  And remember the movie “Steel Magnolias”?  When I first saw it at age 11 (along with a room full of sobbing tweens at my birthday slumber party in 1989 lol), my eyes lit up as Shelby said, “Pink is my signature color.”  I knew she was a kindred spirit because I felt the same way.  Then what did she say? “My colors are blush and bashful.”  I just LOVED that.  And ever since, one of my favorite shades of pink has been blush.  Well guess what?  Today I’m sharing some FABULOUS blush furniture and decor with you!

The coffee table….always a topic of conversation.  It’s a piece noticed by all your guests and a major focal point of a room.  It might be your most-used piece, next to your sofa, in your living rooms.  You want them to be functional and durable but you want them to make a statement, right?  I finally found a perfect solution for a coffee table in my living room but now I’m searching for that perfect one to put in my family room. So here I am on the hunt and decided you would all probably LOVE to join me on the hunt as I look at the most popular coffee tables trending right now and where to find them.  Let’s go!

Ok, here’s one of my very favorites…

This Balustrade Salvaged Wood Coffee Table is an extremely popular coffee table from Restoration Hardware. My best friend bought this for her home and when I went to visit I had major heart eye as I walked in and saw it.  However, it starts at $1,825.  I’m not saying it’s not worth it.  But it is a little a lot out of my price range for a coffee table.  Mostly because I change things in my home ALL the time.  If I knew I could love it for 10 years and keep it around, we might be having a different conversation.  Wayfair also sells the EXACT coffee table HERE at about same price but they offer free shipping on their Baluster coffee table and you can get it in less than a week.

I also found this Uttermost Stratford Coffee Table from Wayfair for only $899.00 and I think I’m in love.  Mostly with the price but it’s gorgeous too!  Its chunky turned legs are a little bit different from the ones above but that price difference is fabulous!

If you’re looking for something a little more contemporary with strong lines but still want the wood element, this Coffee Table from Wayfair is a beautiful choice!

Here’s another like it that I love and have seen in many rooms.  The Varick Gallery Lexington Coffee Table is also a very popular and extremely affordable choice.

I’m really loving the trend of marble throughout the home right now.  I especially love it on a coffee table so this Isabelle Table by Donny Osmond is such a stunning option and I’m stunned at the low price.

However, if you’re really on a tight budget, may I suggest a similar look with this popular IKEA Vittsjö Nesting Tables Hack that I actually did for my living room!

These Vittsjö Nesting Tables come from IKEA and are ridiculously affordable.  They come in black or white but it doesn’t matter which you buy because they’re getting a fancy makeover anyway.  They look like this:

Here are the VERY SIMPLE DIY INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Put all metal legs together, per instructions.
2. Spray with gold spray paint of your choice but I prefer THIS one because it is not brassy or coppery.  It’s the perfect gold.  It’s my favorite and I use it on all my projects needing gold.
3.  After completely dry, add glass to tops.
4. Adhere marble-looking self-adhesive contact paper to the white shelf.

So here is my coffee table.  Easiest thing ever and I love it! I did the same to some bookshelves in my office which I’ll be posting soon.

As far as a gorgeous, traditional coffee table goes, my heart still goes pitter-patter for this Dresden Mirrored Coffee Table.  I think the price is right AND it’s actually on sale right now for Labor Day.

So, there are a few options to get your wheels turning.  These most popular coffee tables are very versatile and functional while making a statement as well.  I think I know which one I’m going to go with for my family room so stay tuned and find out!  I’ll be sharing my Family Room Reveal soon!

Raise your hand if you do NOT love your entry way? {I’m raising my hand with you.}  I had this little alcove that was limiting, awkward and quite frankly, obnoxious when it came to decorating.  AND…it wasn’t even functional….See?!!!

So, I decided a hall tree was an easy and excellent solution.  It would give me little extra storage from the bench, it would be functional, and nice to look at (not gonna lie…my favorite reason for doing it).  So here is what I used and then I’ll show you steps….
Supplies:
Dark Walnut AND Grey Stain
Small bottle acrylic paint in white or ivory and bristle paint brush for quick dry-brushing
(5) 1/2″ x 5.5″ x 8′ white wood (pine is more expensive but feel free to use it or whatever you have on hand)
(1) 1/2″ x 5.5″ x 6′ white wood cut into 3 pieces, using your own saw or your home improvement store will do it for you:
·(1) 3′ piece you’ll use
·(1) 2′ piece you’ll use
·(1) 1′ piece that you can put away and save for a sign or other project
(1) 1/2″ x 2″ x 6′ white wood, cut into (2) equal pieces
(2) Rod Iron corner brackets, no longer than 6″ deep
(2) Decorative hooks
Drywall screws 1 3/4″
Measuring Tape, Stud Finder, Drill/Hammer/Automatic screwdriver

Instructions:
(Note….I bought enough wood to cover the 34″ space I wanted to hide and so the wood measured 37.5″.  You can do the math and make it wider or narrower.  Just adjust the length of shelves and anchoring wood.)
1.  Stain all your wood pieces.  I use one coat Dark Walnut and then one coat of Grey.  You can use whatever stain you like best or even paint the wood.  Let dry COMPLETELY. I let mine dry overnight.
2.  Determine where you want to put the hall tree and use your stud finders to mark studs.  It’s best to screw into studs so that it is stronger.
3.  Equally place thin wood, now cut into (2) 3′ pieces, somewhere near the bottom and top of the height of wooden planks.  Use 3-4 screws (drywall anchors if needed) to attach to wall.  Make sure to level so that they are both straight and directly above/below each other.  Mine did not equally straddle the alcove because there was a light switch directly to the left, in case you’re wondering  Couldn’t cover that!

4.  Piece by piece, screw each plank of wood from left to right, putting one screw in the middle of each plank and drilling into the top piece of wood anchor and also the bottom piece.  (Note:  This method is not only sturdy, but allows you to unassemble and take with you.  Using nails will cause damage as you would have to pry it off the wall later.)  Continue this method until all planks are attached.  I rested my planks along the ground, as opposed to attaching it off the floor and inches up the wall.  I felt it would be safer and I wouldn’t have to worry about the weight.

5.  Determine where you want to put your hooks.  First, take your 2′ piece of wood and screw against the wood planks.  I put mine eye-height.  Then, I attached 2 hooks to that.  I like the layered look and it also makes it sturdier.  I really LOVED these hooks I found at Hobby Lobby and when they went on sale for 50% off, they were only $5 each.

6.  Determine how high you want your shelf to sit.  Put it at least 8″-12″ above you hooks so that you can easily hang and remove items.  The shelf shouldn’t not sit directly above.  Give it a little space.  I put mine a bit higher because I had to make my hall tree really tall to cover that alcove.  I can always remove it, take it with me to another home and even cut it down if needed.  Measure and level your corner brackets and attach them first.  I came in  2″ on each side.  Then, add the 3′ piece and attach to the top of the bracket.  Note:  I used a little white, or ivory, acrylic paint and dry-brushed it a little to lighten it up on the top of the hall tree.  I didn’t want it to be too dark and heavy.  Dry-brushing took 2 minutes to do all sides and maybe 3 minutes to dry.  Easy peasy!
 THAT’S IT!  YOU’RE DONE!!!  Just add (or make) a bench.  I found mine just junkin’ in Waco, TX when we lived there a few years ago.  I painted and recovered it in linen.  I just LOVE the way it looks!  I love the 2 tones of grey and beige and like to mix them throughout my home, being such a neutrals-lover. I styled it, below, with pillows and lighter decor on top and can’t wait to change out everything on it for each holiday and season.  Let’s look at it one more time, shall we???
Aaaaaaaaahhhhhhh….I just LOVE it!!!  {{{squeal}}}
