It’s {officially} Spring and I’m excited to join a fabulous group of ladies in our “Spring Blog Hop”. Flowers and trees and bushes are blossoming and this time of year resembles new life or a rebirth. What better time to freshen up and liven up your home decor and welcome the season! I think of blossoms, bunnies and birds when I think of Spring . The weekly trip to the market for fresh flowers also begins once again.
I love this “NEST” sign from my shoppe that I added just in front of my fresh, blush roses with a darling glitter bunny from Pottery Barn. Not only does it represent our home, but it represents gathering of family and where we are together.
I may not decorate with pastel colors in every corner at spring BUT I do love soft neutrals and their calming and soothing effect on me when I walk through the door of my home.
This time of year is a great time to “shop your home” and move things around. Change up your decor and create new vignettes by simply adding a tray somewhere different. If ever I get stuck on a space, I just put a huge pile of decor items on my floor and then “shop” from those choices. This is much more cost-effective and helps me fall in love with pieces all over again instead of rushing out to buy more more more. The flowers and decor items were pieces I found in a boutique and at Hobby Lobby. You can purchase the ruffle throw blanket in my shoppe (here) and comes in several gorgeous colors that can add that soft and elegant touch to any space!
When you live in the desert of Las Vegas, as we temporarily do, you don’t get to see as many blooming flowers as you’d like, or as I was used to seeing growing up in California. My psyche NEEDED to see them so I work fresh flowers into my budget every week. They are a necessity for me and always manage to put a smile on my face. Not only that, but it creates such a beautiful and welcoming environment and I know my guests always enjoy them as well.
Oh how I love a tiered tray! This one is from The Painted Fox and it has been so fun to grab all things spring and load them on here! Birds, nests, bunnies, flowers, moss balls….the possibilities are endless!
Boxwood is one of my absolute favorite plants! It’s beautiful green and oval-shaped leaves bring such charm to a room. They come in so many sizes, shapes and topiaries these days that it really makes a perfect way to add that natural element, even if you don’t have a green thumb (like me). Make sure to spray your preserved boxwood wreaths and topiaries every other week with a spray bottle so that they stay green and lively looking (and not a dingy olive color) for much longer. It takes just 5 minutes but so worth it, especially since they are not cheap.
I literally made a TON of these fun planter boxes (instructions and plans here) last year and it is so fun to switch out the flowers and candles for every season. These hydrangeas are just the thing to liven up this room and give a pop of color to a neutral room.
Funny fact…I have a drawer full of birds! Not LIVE birds (because that would be craaaazy eek!) but porcelain and ceramic birds. I love placing them all throughout my home in the spring. Especially with the return of their chirping and flying by my window, it’s a nice reminder that life is back. And no need for another pet heehee! In the spring, I love baking! In the fall and winter we make a lot of pumpkin and chocolate cookies and cakes. But in the spring it is different. I love making fruity baked goods like macarons (fabulous recipe here), lemon bars, layered cakes with fruit preserves in-between the layers…you get the idea! They are such a delight to have and serve when guests pay you a visit. Doesn’t this just say “Spring” to you?! The perfect little treat! (These macarons above are from Whole Foods.)
What else should we do this time of year??? You guessed right….SPRING CLEANING! Ha! Call me crazy, but I love it! I love to wash everything in my linen closet and make it smell fresh and clean again. I organize and re-fold sheets and linens so that it is a welcoming space for guests to find what they need. I can’t believe we’ve lived in this home for a year and my husband and 2 children have kept it looking this neat. The rest of the house could look in shambles one day, but not the linen closet. It’s almost as though it’s sacred LOL! I challenged them to keep it tidy and they really have. Also, go through all of your clothing and closets and drawers and even your garage. Find what doesn’t fit or items you no longer use or need. Have a garage sale and put a few extra dollars in your pocket. I love doing this and then having some money for new spring apparel or even home decor items I’ve been wanting.
What’s a spring tour without a little garden party? I wish you were here! I’d make you a plate of fresh fruit and cupcakes and invite you to sit down for tea! The weather is perfect here and staying in the high 60’s and low 70’s which means we sit outside as often as we can to enjoy the warm sun and light breeze.
Thank you so much for stopping by! I hope you have the most lovely Spring! Don’t forget to go and checkout some really amazing bloggers who I know will provide you with a ton of inspiration as well! Please visit…..
