Just a few months ago, we moved into our new home as it was finished being built.  As we’ve settled in and have finished organizing and decorating rooms I’ve been revealing them to you here, one by one. Today I’m taking you into a room that’s all my own, where I create and think and write and plan and dream.  Join me as I reveal to you my blush and gold glam office!

This upstairs office is just next to our master bedroom and the only space upstairs with the same flooring as our downstairs.

I kept my long white desk that we had back in our Dallas home.  It’s from IKEA and I love it because it’s so long that I can work on a couple of projects at once.  I can sew on it if I want to or pull out my small sewing folding table. (Note: I think they only make this desk in black/brown now and not white but you could prime and paint it. It’s a great piece!)

I wish I could find one as long as it but with drawers.

Until then, I have a vintage piece that I keep next to my desk, full of office supplies and holds my printer.

I once had these mirrored candle wall sconces (found at Tuesday Morning a couple of years ago) and this pretty chandelier canvas art by Oliver Gal called “Candelabro” in our living room back in our home in Dallas.

I like the subtle grey of the art blending with the wall and the gold and blush tones.  It was perfect for this blush and gold glam office!

HOW TO HIDE CORDS:

One of the most frequent problems of any office is how to conceal the router and cords so that everything looks tidy and beautiful.  For a couple of months I searched for pretty boxes to hide them in, as this was the only way with the style of desk I have and not much to hide it behind.  I already have many pretty boxes in my office but they weren’t large enough to put everything in.  I decided to grab a $5 white IKEA file box and use blush paint and water to create an ombré watercolor design.  It’s simple and it matches.  All the cords go through the back hole of the box.

I made sure everything on my desk was blush, gold, and white and pretty to look at.

Blush pens, pretty mugs, coordinating portfolios, pretty notebooks, candles and accessories.
And of course…there’s my favorite bow chair.

Remember this set-up from my office back in Dallas?  This “Press For Diet Coke” framed buzzer is back.

It gets soooo bright in my office but I love my view with the big windows.  I get to watch all the horses run around on the beautiful property next to us and I get to see the most beautiful sunsets out the back window.  I love having a lot of natural light in my office.  I would hate for it to feel like a dungeon.

This is a popular IKEA hack.  The Vittsjö shelving system is inexpensive, can be sprayed gold, and is a beautiful way to store things.

I keep a lot of files in boxes, rather than a filing cabinet.  I like the way it looks and is a prettier way to store important documents.  It also takes up less space.

I styled the shelves with not only pretty boxes of important files but also with pieces that are new to my online shoppe.

I also display jewelry on the top and one of my favorite prints that a friend gave me, trimmed in gold glitter and in a mirrored frame.

I wanted a way to display this Audrey Hepburn quote, that I’ve always loved, and created this darling print on photoshop.  I thought you all might enjoy it too so I’m offering it as a free printable.

My favorite blush chair (originally shared in this post) also came with us from Dallas.  I like to call this my “instafamous blush chair” because this Nate Berkus-designed chair caught his eye on my Instagram feed (back when my IG name was “SheLeavesALittleSparkle”) and he even included it in his blog post.  You can read all about it HERE on Nate Berkus’ blog.

At a California Interior Designer’s warehouse sale back home, I found that lovely venetian-bordered mirror with gold distressing.  It’s really unique and I love the glam feel of it.  I knew it would be perfect above my chair.

 When I’m typing or creating something, I usually sit in my favorite bow chair at my desk.

If I’m going to be writing or editing a while, I like to sit in my blush chair.  I also like it because it’s a place my kids can come, or my hubby, and sit and talk to me while I’m in my office.

I looked and looked for a chandelier that felt right for this office.  I wanted crystals on it, more modern clean lines, and brass or gold metal.  I found it here.

A couple of years ago I wrote a blog post on DIY Framed Wallpaper Panels as a solution to a bare wall.  We were renting at the time, back in Dallas, and knew we’d be moving for my husband’s job but I really loved wallpaper.  So I made framed wallpaper panels (so easy) and loved how it turned out.

I enjoyed them but was looking for something new for this new office.  I tried fashion art in a collage and I tried several large pieces of art but in the end….nothing seemed quite right.  I pulled out the panels from my “for sale” pile in my garage and fell in love with them again.  I love the champagne and blush colors with the gold frames.

I sold 2 other pieces of furniture that just didn’t fit this office and didn’t give me the storage solution I wanted for all my crafty things, customer orders, and shipping supplies.  But I came across this vintage dresser being sold locally on Craigslist and knew it would be perfect.

I painted it and sprayed the vintage handles gold instead of replacing them because I thought they were so cool. Aren’t they pretty?!

A treat for visitors…because macarons and chocolates are the best treats. Don’t you wish you could reach through the screen right now and have one?  I wish you could too.  If you were here in person, I’d even make you a Dirty Diet Coke!

I found these lovely etagere end tables at Tuesday Morning a couple of years ago but I’m linking similar ones below.  They’re perfect for the sides of my large office window to help frame the room and add extra storage.

In the other corner is a lamp for a little extra night on those late nights.

Wallpaper comes and goes. It’s either trendy or it’s not.  I grew up thinking ‘I will NEVER ever put wallpaper in my home,’ after my mom put up a large, mauve and green floral pattern in our large living room and dining room, ha!  Granted, it was lovely at the time but then it stayed for years and years and we eventually cringed at the sight of it.  Then, we’d visit my grandmother and she had metallic botanical wallpaper in the guest bathroom and wallpaper throughout the whole house.  I felt like I would leave the home and could still see the pattern at everything I was looking at!  Well, guess who eventually grew up and wants wallpaper? I’m raising my hand right now.

Here’s the thing…when you have a neutral palette in your home like I do, you like to make a statement somehow with wall art or subtle pops of color.  A small amount of wallpaper just sounded so fun to me. I’m crushing on so many wallpapers but we’re renting before our final move so I decided to do create framed wallpaper panels for my office.

I’d been stuck for over 2 months brainstorming what kind of wall art I wanted above my desk.  My office is blush and gold and a few subtle hints of light grey.  I couldn’t find one thing, in stores or online, that I wanted for that space.  Half asleep in my bed one night (when inspiration usually comes, so silly), my eyes open and I know what I want to do!  I remember doing wallpaper panels 8 years ago in one of our other homes and I loved it.  That was it!  A beautiful statement piece with wallpaper that can be changed in and out!

The wallpaper I chose is called the “Arlington Pale Gold Large Rose Vine” and as soon as I saw it, I knew it was THE ONE!  Love at first sight.  You just can’t tell in the photograph but the background is this shimmery, pale goldish-blush and it is stunning in person.  I love the different shades of blush on the rose petals.

All I had to do was buy 2 large frames, I used 20″x30″, spray paint it gold and then cut out the wallpaper to fit and stick it into the frames.  It may have taken a few months to decide on, but only took a couple of hours to spray, cut, and put together.  I love the romantic, feminine statement it makes.  I love flowers, anything floral and I’m really hoping I don’t make fun of it in 30 years like I did our wallpaper growing up…ha!  I know I won’t.  This is just the perfect amount of wallpaper and floral and looks very sophisticated.

I know I’m surely not the first one with this idea but I hadn’t seen it done anywhere else.  So I went to Pinterest after hanging my framed wallpaper panels yesterday and was curious to see how others had done it and what wallpaper they had chosen.  I wanted to share a few examples with you for inspiration.

This wallpaper panel is so lovely and really adds a bright statement against the darker grey.  It adds that perfect touch of elegance to this bedroom.

I love the the 3 panels of this chinese botanical pattern against the green sofa.  Notice how they kept everything else very simple and clean so that it wasn’t too busy.

I love the idea of 3 panels for a bold statement AND it can be switched out when you fall out of love with it.  You never have to steam and peel and deal with the mess.

I’ve always been a fan of those good ‘ole American films that my parents and grandparents grew up with. And as a relative of Bing Crosby (Crosby is my maiden name) it’s a darn good thing, ha! The older I get, the more I fall in love with the decor and style of each of those movie sets. Oh how these old films have inspired interior design for decades to come! As I’ve introduced my daughter to some of my favorites, I also decided to make a list of my favorite interiors. Let me share some of them with you!

Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961)

Probably one of the most iconic for interior and fashion design and oh how we adore Audrey Hepburn!! The big chandelier, the “LBD” or little black dress pearls and an up-do, black gloves and big sunnies…..we loved it all!

Hello gorgeous hat and beautiful striped awnings! I’ll take both!

I love that she keeps her drinks on a silver tray. And how about that blinged-out gold rotary phone!! I die!

Guess what’s coming back? Yep, bold wallpaper! George {and his mistress, aka designer} knew how chic it was then. If you don’t feel confident about installing wallpaper but want to give a bold design a go, this peel and stick wallpaper could be a much easier option for you when it comes to actually getting it on your walls.

Another fabulous wallpaper shot and oh, those tall drapes! They make a statement and just frame that gorgeous skyline so perfectly, don’t they?!

You have to agree that her room is atrocious! How can such a darling woman live in that mess??? But check out those high ceilings and moulding!

That hairdryer in the back is awesome but the vanity…..faaaaabulous!

Aaaaaaand my favorite….the half-bathtub sofa with the zebra rug, luggage and boxes for end tables and open shelving. Definitely a style all of her own! Crazy, but inspiring to many for years to come! Especially with that adorable sleep mask and night shirt!

High Society (1956)

Grace Kelly was a legend! Later, she became a real-life princess but on-screen she was always the princess of poise elegance! I just loved this film “High Society” and especially this room of hers. The hints of blush and teal, both now very popular, adorned many rooms in this era. The canopy bed, the frames, settee and chairs….I love it all.

Ok, this dress? Not making come-back any time soon but blush walls are being done in many bedrooms and dressing rooms right now across the world. On point, Grace!

I love the wainscoting, moulding and paneling all throughout this period. It was almost awkward to build a nice home at all without it.

I have seen wallpaper JUST LIKE THIS as I’ve been searching for wallpaper for my office. Bold wallpaper really is making it’s way back! And I’m swooning over this sofa and end tables and THIS DRESS! {gasp} So fun!

The art deco of this pool pavilion is just soooo lovely! More blush and teal and this blue is just adorable! Those pool loungers are just dreamy. And where can I find a side table like that? I adore it!

Next to my love for Grace Kelly and my cousin, Bing Crosby, I sure do love a grey tufted sofa!

The wainscoting, the blush pillows, the tufted sofa….such a perfect modern twist on “High Society!”

I love this canopy bed used by House of Jade Interiors! Does it remind you of Samantha’s in “High Society”? A little bit, right?!

The canopy beds are even coming back for those that love that rustic, farmhouse-style look. The strong, masculine lines of this bed can make a gorgeous statement with other masculine or even modern pieces. But I’d probably choose to pair it with some feminine and tufted pieces.

So you see, old films really do reflect our interior design choices from the past and continue to inspire us in the present and future. Do you think we will eventually be inspired by movies like “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” or “E.T.”? Haha! I sure pe not. The 80’s were NOT my favorite, as far style goes. But they sure were fun!

The thought of my daughter, Brooklyn, being a “tween” makes me all sorts of emotional. She is 10 and approaching 11 rapidly. She has more of an opinion about her room now and individual style and wanted a change. Brooklyn loves looking at different styles on Instagram and looked for some bedroom inspiration online until she knew what she wanted exactly. She said, “I want light grey with accents of blush and gold and lots of white. I love the vintage, shabby chic style still but I want it to look more grown-up and nothing to sparkly or look like a nursery!” Oh mercy lol! So, goodbye little girl room and hello tween girl bedroom makeover! (Note: *Paint colors used will be shared at the end of post.)

Brooklyn’s room before was darling, or so we used to think. It had a twin bed (first thing to go) and just too small if we had cousins or family staying with us. I just LOVED the headboard that was a vintage shabby chic dream, found in a Waco barn, and paid just $5 for it. I will be repurposing it into something else soon. I am still deciding what exactly I want to do with it. Please forgive the sub-par photos with horrible lighting and taken on my phone.
Her furniture was vintage and passed down from my mother-in-law so I didn’t want to get rid of it. However, the furniture pieces were all painted in an array of light aqua, pink and white.

I even found a French Provincial dresser and painted it cotton candy pink and added a cute, vintage window with one of our favorite quotes.
Meh! Again, we loved it years ago but a tween girl bedroom makeover was exactly what we needed! I kept hearing, “Mom, this room is too babyish for me now!” {tear}
Ok, well those pics above were an embarrassment but we loved it when we first did it and this bedroom has moved 2 more times since it’s completion in 2010. Now, for the after…

We love grey in this home, I’m sure it was hard to tell…ha! Brooklyn fell in love, as did I, with the Restoration Hardware Baby & Child “Colette” Bed. The light grey wash finish on the wooden trim, the grey tufted fabric, the feminine shape and lovely carvings inspired by Louis XV. Everything about it was what we were looking for and we looked at a TON of beds! All shapes, styles, brands, manufacturers….we really hunted for the perfect bed for this girls tween bedroom makeover.

We found these large euro sham white pillows. This lovely white ruffle coverlet with a white ruffle bedskirt brightened the room up as well.The light grey quilt and shams were the perfect addition of grey and texture to the bedding. The lovely blush shabby chic ruffle throw blanket is from my online shoppe and looked perfect thrown at the end of the bed to add another soft hint of blush.

We found three accent pillows of different shapes and textures and they all brought different touches of shabby chic, traditional, and that trendy, tween vibe. That gold sequin bow pillow was such a fun find and balanced out the room so that it wasn’t, as Brooklyn put it, too “vintage-y and old”.

The french provincial nightstands were very reasonable priced from Craigslist and we made sure to spray the hardware with a muted gold. *All paint colors will be listed at the end of this post. The mirrors were such a fun clearance find at Tuesday Morning and the flower petal shape complimented the flowers that hang above her bed. I really love the soft blush faux peonies we found at Home Goods. I also found this darling crown dish there as well and it’s perfect for the many nights (pretty much every night) that she’s already in bed and hasn’t remembered to take off her earrings. There they go.

Using an existing lamp from Hobby Lobby and existing frames (one of which we painted blush to add more color) we were able to cut down on the cost.

I love this distressed white chandelier! However, if you are on a tight budget, check out this DIY chandelier tutorial I did a couple of weeks ago and easily make your own for a fraction of the price. And I actually got Brooklyn’s approval on this chandelier since, even though she loves bling, she didn’t want a very sparkly chandelier like she used to have. Right before we moved, I made these prints (in the background) on Photoshop and on my Silhouette Cameo of blush and gold uplifting messages and mottos. She absolutely LOVED them! They are all things she does or already lives by and so it made it even more personalized.

One of my favorite pieces in this room…these Large Paper Wall Flowers made by My Sparkled Life. Trista does such an incredible job making these and they are such a special, unique piece of art that everyone has commented on and swooned over.

This blush crepe paper butterfly caught my eye as I left Pottery Barn Kids one day. We thought it would be a lovely accent on the wall and perfectly resembles the young woman she is transforming into and spreading her wings. Don’t leave the cocoon just yet, little butterfly! Neither of us are ready for that!

These sheer white curtains with small ruffles frame Brooklyn’s bay windows perfectly. They are sheer enough to let the bright light in, long and straight-edged for those strong lines it needed but then a few small ruffles to compliment the femininity of the room. The “shine” gold sequin banner from Pottery Barn Kids is such a beautiful message to wake up to each morning and describes what my daughter does every day of her life. Of course, it compliments that gold sequin bow pillow on her bed perfectly and brings out the gold mirrors and hardware.

UPDATE: We I felt the room needed more blush and talked Brooklyn into letting me make some blush curtains from this gorgeous fabric I found at JoAnn’s Fabrics.

Remember that blue vintage dresser (above) from my mother-in-law? We kept it, of course, and painted it. We used the IKEA Ung Drill frame and spray-painted the B letter gold and sprinkled some glitter on it. Brooklyn and I discussed painting this mini dress form with chalk paint and it was a little scary but we did it. We saved a few pennies and it turned out great. We displayed the jewelry that matched her room and put the rest on knobs inside her closet.

The drawer knobs on top were a lovely muted gold with glass beads and then the rest of them were such a pretty gold mercury glass. My tween wasn’t sure about these when doing this makeover but I pushed her to just put them on and then see. Yes, she fell in love and I got my way! All of them were on sale from Hobby Lobby.

Let’s talk about the actual bed, or mattress, that Brooklyn gets to sleep on. This mattress from LexMod is absolutely INCREDIBLE!!

This Aveline Foam Mattress from LexMod is 10″ and has 3 layers of foam. At first, I was very skeptical about its size. We weren’t very sure thinking whether it’ll be enough for our girl. And my sister had recently bought a King-size bed after checking Bed Sizes UK Guide and it turned out to be perfect! My initial plan was to get a similar king-size mattress, but then I decided against it. A few days later, we bought Aveline Foam Mattress and it ships for free, I received it in a box. Yes, a box! It is air tight and rolled up and vacuum sealed in a tube box. We easily carried it upstairs and put it on the bed and watched it expand into an actual mattress. Amazing! It is actually as comfortable as the king memory foam mattress on our bed that we bought last year for over $1,000. Oh how I wish we’d known about the LexMod Aveline mattress first! It’s only $249! {gasp!}

Now, for her vanity…

Can you believe I found this vanity on the side of the road? Yep, when we lived back in Waco it was sitting there with a “FREE” sign on the side of a road one morning and I grabbed it so quickly. I could hardly believe it. I gave it a fresh coat (even though it was in good condition) and added gold mercury glass knobs from Hobby Lobby. I had found the mirror at a garage sale and it had been in the garage. When we did the makeover, I knew it had to be gold. I have some gold/fur stool choices listed below but this was a stool I already had. I just sprayed it gold as well and add fur fabric (by the yard from JoAnn’s) and hot-glued it over the top and overlapped it on the bottom, underneath. Easy peasy, right?! I LOVE NEUTRALS!  I especially love blush because it’s so feminine and romantic.  The other day I went to the mall and saw these gorgeous blush patent “Luminate” Open Toe Dress Sandals from BP Nordstrom.  Especially after having foot surgery on New Years’ Eve and not being able to wear 6″ heels yet, I love that the heels are only 3 1/2″ but still sexy.  They are extremely comfortable!  So…they came home with me.  I’m hoping to graduate from flats to these lovelies in the next couple of weeks!

I walked past the Icing store and saw these gorgeous Blush/Nude Ombré Cat-eye Sunglasses and had to have them.  At only $14 I couldn’t check out fast enough.  Love love love them!

And last, but not least, I received these gorgeous Blush (also comes in Mint) Ruffle Tunics with 3/4-length sleeves for my store www.ATresChicBoutique.com and am SOOO excited about them!  This top is soft and comfy and gorgeous!  The chiffon ruffle gives this top the perfect feminine flair and will be perfect for date night or lunch with girlfriends etc.  Especially paired with some skinny jeans and my new blush shoes (above)….It will be lovely for the spring.

I put on the Ruffle Tunic from Très Chic Boutique and couldn’t decide on jewelry….so many fun choices!
