There are so many different types of home accents that you can use when decorating and styling your home.  One of my favorite ways is using books.  They’re not only pretty but they can be used to give height to a vignette, add color to a space, and even be something nice for guests to read or look at. I’m going to show you the prettiest books to style your coffee table and style your home AND I’m even sharing a beautiful book that my friend just published.

Let’s start with my friend’s new book…

French Country Cottage by Courtney Allison

One of the blessings of blogging is getting to know the other women and men out there doing the same thing you’re doing.  You build friendships and teach each other so much and MANY times I’m learning from them all and being inspired by them.  My friend Courtney at French Country Cottage has always been an inspiration of mine.  She shares a love of french and vintage things and I always find myself getting lost in all the beauty of anything she creates.  Her photography of her gorgeous home and tables and vignettes is like no other and I just sit and swoon over everything that Courtney shares!  Then there’s her holiday decorating and stunning Christmas trees…..I mean….there are no words!

Well guess what?  Courtney finally published the most swoon-worthy book, named after her blog:
French Country Cottage

Let me give you a sneak peek at this beautiful book….

The room designs, the furniture, the styling, the flowers, the ambiance, the lovely home accents…

….each page makes you turn, wanting to see more and more.

Even Courtney’s backyard is just as romantic as inside of her home.

Trust me….when you buy her book, French Country Cottage, you will want to jump up and start making little changes to your home because you feel so inspired!  Oh what fun!

When I finished pining over Courtney’s book, I thought it would be perfect on my dresser in our master bedroom.

Other books I love and how I style them in my home

Guest bedroom – I pull in books that have spines the same colors and that I’m using in the room at that time.  I even included my vintage copy of “Little Women” because it’s a classic and I know certain guests would appreciate it.

I love our little blue and white guest bedroom because I’m able to add pops of other colors, like this blush pink, and create a cute corner like this and style it.

I do the same thing in my office.

The books you choose don’t always have to be actual books.  You can use pretty journals or composition books like these.

Even before my office was painted blush pink….I had it styled with books.

I love using fashion and style books in my office and throughout my home.

I especially love putting them on my coffee table.

Pretty coffee table books are the best!

On my living room built-ins, I didn’t care for these books’ spines so I just turned them around.  They can be beautiful that way also and help style a shelf.

On the other side of our built-ins, I used our family photo albums displayed between 2 beautiful bookends.  I love the way it looks and would much rather have the styled like this than in a cupboard.

During the spring and summer, I used pink and blue to style my home.  I decided to use my pretty recipe books in styling part of a kitchen counter under the cabinets.

I usually have a candle on top and a plate behind.  This is actually how this little vignette started off.

Then, I kept adding recipe books.  But I love it both ways.

Finally!  We’ve been in this home for 9 months and decided what we wanted to do in the guest bedroom and today we’re sharing the result with you.  I’m so glad you could join me today for our coastal glam guest bedroom reveal!

I had originally decided to do some kind of wallpaper mural on this back wall, behind the headboard, but when it arrived it just didn’t feel right.  For months we tried looking at it, hoping it would become what I had envisioned but it just wasn’t happening.  Fun idea, but my gut told me, “Not for this room”.  And that’s okay!  Listen to that and go with it!

I came across this gorgeous Ocean Blue Faux Grasscloth Wallpaper on D. Marie Interiors and immediately fell in love.  This was the wallpaper! It’s “sky” color was such a pretty medium blue, with lighter and darker tones throughout the design as well.  I knew it was going to allow me endless possibilities and fun combinations in this space.  In just a few hours, my friend and I had it up.  It was our first time but it went well!  Check out her site for other beautiful wallpapers!

These pretty white nightstands were such a good price and the perfect size for this small little guest bedroom.  I found these to-die-for gold leaf turned table lamps on Perigold’s website and, since I’m a Perigold Tastemaker, they sent them to me for this space.  They have since sold out (quickly) but they have so many other gorgeous options HERE!

This gorgeous sunburst mirror also came from Perigold, as well as these lovely Caitlin Wilson blue floral pillow covers.  As soon as I saw these pillows, I knew they’d be perfect because I wanted a couple of soft feminine touches to this room.  All other pillows and the rest of the bedding were from HomeGoods but I’ll have links for them at the end of the post in the “Shop The Post” section .

This headboard is the perfect shape for this space and can be found HERE or HERE.

I used this chandelier and another just like it back in our Dallas kitchen and nook and decided that, even though it was a cooler gold, I liked it in the guest bedroom.

The last thing I wanted for this room was just a small slipper chair to rest any guest’s bags or sit on to take off their shoes…or to sit and read on.  I wanted it to be comfortable but smaller and stylish.  I envisioned something blue and white striped that went with the wallpaper and I found it!  The price is fantastic and you can shop it HERE or HERE.

This room is going to be fun to change up and add different accent colors to, especially this little chair.  It’s so cute when I bring in some pops of blush pink!  So fun, right?!

The wall to the right of the windows has gorgeous artwork coming that has been backordered so check back soon because I’ll be updating this post when it arrives and sharing photos.  They are gorgeous coastal photos that will be soothing for guests and perfect for this “coastal glam” guest bedroom.

This is the same curtain rod and rings that I used in my office and living room and loved them enough to use them again here.  These curtains are the perfect ivory, not too white or too creamy, good quality and fabric, pinch-pleated, and the price is phenomenal.  I’m going to hem them but for now, a little puddling looks nice.

PALM LEAF PRINT SUMMER APPAREL

We leave for Hawaii next week so I’ve been looking for darling swimsuit coverups to coordinate with all of my fun new suits.  I loved this one so much!  It’s like a lighter mint green and knew right away it would be perfect to wear with this new clutch and earrings.  Aren’t they so cute together?!

Earlier in June, my hubby whisked me away to Southern California for an early 40th Birthday getaway and we had so much fun.  The hotel we stayed at had this wallpaper and when I saw they wall, I couldn’t resist a photo opp…ha!  I love this darling kimono as a swimsuit cover, although you can also wear it with jeans or shorts and a tshirt or cami.  You can find this kimono HERE and HERE.  I completed this day’s look with my favorite summer sandals and this cute summer fedora.  You can’t see, but I’m wearing a palm leaf print swimsuit so I’ll share some fun options at the end of the post.

A couple of years ago on one of our Hawaii trips, my sister and I met at the beach in palm leaf print swimsuits.  Mine is no longer available and neither is her exact suit but I loved how she wore it with a pink top from a different set.  So fun!  Linking a bunch of similar options at the end of the post!

Recently on my Instagram stories, I shared this DARLING new one-piece swimsuit I found HERE.  The price is killer and guess what?  It’s sooooo flattering on!  I absolutely love it and love the quality!  I was so pleasantly surprised because other similar suits that I love are around $200.  This suit is a must-have!

Here’s a little peak a few things that I’m packing for next week’s trip to Hawaii.  Do you see how much I’m loving palm leaf print?  Hahaha!  Don’t worry, I won’t be wearing it all together.

PALM LEAF PRINT SUMMER ACCESSORIES

This darling palm leaf print duffle bag with a blush background has been one of my faves so far this season.  It’s fun for the summer and also makes a darling overnight bag, carry-on, or gym bag.

This pink and palm leaf print towel is the cutest!  I bought it for the summer pool days and Hawaii.  I also found these cute palm leaf print notebooks (at TJMaxx) but will share some similar below at the end of the post as well.  For more info on my blush pink office, see this post.

PALM LEAF PRINT SUMMER HOME ACCENTS

I decided to add some fun blush pink and palm leaf print pillows to my bed for the rest of the summer and switch things up a bit.  Isn’t it fun?!

And then in my office….

I grabbed a palm leaf print throw blanket from the same line as my pillows, towel, and duffle bag in the above pictures and put it on my club chair.  I think it’s a fun summer touch!  As I’m posting this and trying to link it for you, the website says that it just sold out at Pottery Barn Teen. Darn it!!

One of my favorite things to wear, when it’s weather-appropriate, is a boyfriend style button-up shirt. It’s nice and baggy and super comfy and perfect with a pair of good jeans.  I’ll even put on a great pair of sandals or flip-flops or baseball cap and run my kids around or run errands. It’s a comfortable outfit but not frumpy and it’s better than sweats, ha!  This shirt is definitely one of my current crushes and I have them in a few different colors.

That candle you see on the right finally arrived, after being delivered to the wrong address.  The Sugared Blossom is a new scent and WOW it is to die for!!! It has luscious fragrance notes of sugared jasmine petals, Italian citron and creamy Tahitian vanilla bean.  I mean…it’s the perfect spring and summer candle!  And it’s pretty!

The other day it was chilly but the rain stopped and then sun was out and it was bright!  I’ve always been a “hat girl” so I absolutely adore this blush panama hat I recently purchased.  I already had my blush tennies so I thought it would be fun to pair them with this blue shirt and the blush hat.  I’m crushing on that combo lately, if you’ve seen all my recent blog posts.  It’s been my “theme” for spring.

This cute blush ruffle clutch is another current crush and I just adore it.  So it was also a part of my outfit the other day.  It goes with so many other things.  I can dress it up or down and it comes in a pretty blue color as well.

Did you catch our “Loveliest Looks of Spring Tour” yesterday?  I shared this fabulous new striped ruffle skirt that I just bought and adore.  It’s so light and flowy and comfy. And the price point is fabulous!  I’ll share some others I love as well that are similar.

Our new home should be ready in just 5 weeks!  {squeal}  So, while everything is in storage, I’m also stockpiling home decor and furniture so that I’m ready to go when we close on the house.  I had a new bench arrive today and loved it so I thought I would share.  I’m also sharing some others from my home and others that I love so let’s talk about how to pick benches for your home.

This is Giorgio’s little corner over here (or so he thinks…wink).  I figured I would just set this new bench by the window where the sunlight pours in.  It’s called the Abilene Fabric Storage Ottoman by Christopher Knight Home.  Although it sells at other online stores, I bought it at Target and it’s on sale right now for 25% off through the weekend. The price there is so much better, plus it’s on sale.  And then, of course, if you have your Target RedCard you get free shipping and an extra 5% off!  You just can’t beat that!

I love the pretty turned legs and the natural wood frame.  The fabric is a really pretty natural linen (light ivory) color even though the online picture also shows a light grey color.  So keep that in mind. It’s so pretty though with a rug like this with grey tones.  It’s perfect for my neutral color palette.

It’s perfect for storing blankets in, as the top opens up (attached hinges inside along back), for anything else you need to store.   It’s a beautiful piece and I thought the quality is really good.

How To Pick Benches For Your Home

So here are a few tips on deciding if a the bench is a good choice.  Make sure the bench is:

•functional for the space needed

•fits the size of the space (not too big and not too small)

•flows well in the space it’s going in

•practical, considering the age of person it is for

•durable and well-constructed

•NOT a “catch-all” for clothing or dirty laundry (too common)

Let me show you a few other benches I love as well.

If you’ve seen my Updated Vanity & Master Bedroom Tour from our home back in Dallas, I shared this beautiful mirrored bench. It adds a touch of glam to any room and has a lovely linen seat.

In one of my Easter tours, I shared this other new Nate Berkus Storage Bench, I had recently purchased and it also has a removable top for storage.  I love that! Especially if you’re short on space or if you just want to hide blankets or magazines or pillows or dvd’s….it’s a great piece and very practical.

Marble.  It’s always been a stone that many adore.  While many people would particularly love it on their countertops or as a backsplash, it doesn’t always meet their family’s budget or maybe it’s not cohesive with their family functionality.  Sometimes it’s safer or even more budget-friendly to opt for marble accessories throughout the home instead.  I’m sharing some fabulous marble kitchen, bathroom, and home accessories that I’ve found lately.  Some of these are ones I’ve recently purchased for our new home that’s currently being built.  You might recognize a few of them from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.
