Halloween is upon us and I decided to surprise our kiddos tonight with our final Halloween Movie Night as a family with coordinating treats.  We pick a handful of movies every year and I make matching treats that go with the film.  It is so much fun!  I’m putting all 10 that I’ve posted here in one blog post for you to pin and look to whenever you need a fun idea over the coming years.

Excuse the fuzzy pic but my husband took this for me and we were struggling to get a good photo before the kids came downstairs.

1. Jack Skellington Cake Pops  and “The Nightmare Before Christmas”

Tonight, they had no idea what we were watching because I made these Jack Skellington Cake pops before church while they were in the shower and getting ready.  I haven’t done this one in a couple of years. But we watch “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and bring out these treats, dressed in a striped skirt and a Jack Skellington shirt I found at Target a few years ago.  They go CRAZY over this!  I loooove their reaction!

This one is fun because you can use Rice Krispie Treats and make them into balls or brownies or cake pops.  After you dip them in white candy melting chips, let them dry completely.

Use a knife to trim the bottom, like you would when peeling an apple or potato, to make it rounder.

Use a black bakery pen or black icing gel or even black candy melting chips (melted) with a toothpick to create the Jack Skellington face.  I’ll admit, I think they turned out cuter a couple of years ago (I used Rice Krispie Treat balls at that time) because my hand was so shaky today when I did these.  Then I just take a small black and white ribbon and make a sort of “bow tie” to some of them that you can make upside down, with the head on top and the straw on the bottom.  HERE in the original post from a couple of years ago when my kiddos were little. So so fun!

2. Boogers on a stick for “Shrek Thrilling Tales”

I’m embarrassed to say it, but these are DELICIOUS and might be my favorite treat because they are salty and sweet lol!  Sounds gross, so sorry.  But just try them.  HERE is the post.

How cute are these little white chocolate pumpkin pretzels?!!  They are soooo easy so let’s get right to it…..

First, put down some wax paper on a large baking sheet.  Lay out your pretzels.  Square ones will also work but I like the original shape best.  Get your melting chocolate (I bought them at Michael’s when they were all 40% a couple of weeks ago).  Melt, per instructions, in microwave and stir in between.  I like to do orange ones too, because I know the kids like the color.  But since I decorate in all neutrals for the holiday, I had to do some pretty white ones too, ha!

Use a small spoon and just drop chocolate into the pretzels.  It will start to harden pretty quickly.  After the orange or white pumpkins are done, do just a little green chocolate and drop them sideways off your little spoon, just a little dollop.

As soon as they harden, maybe 5 minutes later, peel them off the wax paper and put them on a cute little plate.  Tah-dah!!  Such a great after-school snack with some sliced apples for my kids who get home in a couple hours from school.  You can even bring these to a class, office, or church party to share.  It’s even fun to drop off to a neighbor!

I love turquoise and red together and I also LOVE the new aqua/jadeite cake stand I found at Home Goods for only $12.99!  Yes, that’s right…$12.99!!  This same one costs at least $55 online.  I actually almost bought one last week because I’ve been wanting one so bad but decided to wait (since I have 20 cake stand already….eek….addiction/obsession).  Glad I waited because when I walked into Home Goods the other day and saw it…I swear I saw the heavens parting and shining down upon it…oh!  and angels were singing too!  hahaha  It’s a beauty and I’m happy to add it to my collection.

Ok, back to the Valentine….I just thought this was cute…little love birds!  You could add any treat in the bag but I love these little red juju candy hearts and bought the small plastic bags at Walmart.  I think I got these juju hearts at Kmart for a dollar for the whole bag.  Great price.

My kids GIGGLED over this one! We love these weird little creatures and are very excited for their new movie to come out on July 10th.  And yes, we LOVE us some Twinkies…lard, preservatives, sugar and all!  I only buy them a few times a year but nevertheless…I’m glad that Hostess brought them back because there is just something nostalgic about eating a Twinkie.  My mom never bought them either….ever!  But I’d earn money and go to the AM/PM and buy myself one every few months as a young kid

Ok, so it literally took me like 5 minutes to print this out (I made all the printables on photoshop days ago so it made it easier), decorate the Twinkie and glued it on the back.  Start with the pdf download:

“You’re One In A Minion” Free Printable

EASY Directions: 1- Cut a thin little strip of black paper and glue it across the Twinkie.  2- Cut 2 little circles of tinfoil and glue next to each other (touching) on black strip.  3- Add googley eyes.  4- Cut a strip of blue paper and wrap around bottom third of Twinkie and glue the back ends on top of each other.  5- I then grabbed a small piece of red paper and folded in half and cut out the 2 hearts. 6- Unfold hearts and glue on blue paper (see above).  That’s it!  Sooo cute and soooo easy right?!!!  You do NOT have to be a crafty person to do this.  I’ve seen primary kids make these before and you should have all of this in your home already (except the Twinkie).  If you don’t have googley eyes, just cut out little white circles and draw them.  Have fun!!

Yesterday, as I do every 1st of February, I started filling the kids’ Pottery Barn Chairbackers (sold here) with a little Valentine…either a treat or game or small gift.  Like the Elf on the Shelf at Christmas, this gets them to jump out of bed and get ready for school so they can come and see what’s awaiting them (I love that part…no having to drag kids outta bed).

Yesterday, being Day #1, the kids received this cute soda valentine.  We don’t let them have soda often and so it’s a treat.  And yes, like their mama, they love Diet Coke (don’t judge LOL) so I actually let them have one.  They were thrilled!  Your kids might prefer root beer or Big Red or Sprite.  I’m offering the free printable:

Today was Day #2 and I wanted to do something a little different and I couldn’t drop into their chair backers.  So I left them this note:

My kids just LOVE “pink milk” (Strawberry Nesquick) but you can just serve plain milk with a few drops of food coloring if you prefer to avoid added sugar.  And who doesn’t love a powdered donut??  They just melt in your mouth.  Mmmmmm….  I always have fun straws and things in my pantry.  I found these straws and the napkins at Hobby Lobby and at Michaels.  I use these cute milk bottles for any party or occasion.  You can get a set of 8 at Michaels for $9.99 and then I used my 40% off coupon and got them for $6.  Such a steal!  Here is the cute note I’m setting on the table next to their milk and donuts…

Such a fun night with friends at their Christmas Eve Party!  Especially when Santa and his elf came to bring the kids gifts. They knew so much about each one of the kids and it was too cute. I brought my yummy “Christmas Crack” (see recipe below) and some “Winter Wonderland” cupcakes with gold edible glitter sprinkled on top (found at Hobby Lobby) and also glitter deer toppers (sold here).  I love anything with a deer right now and it just seemed like the perfect touch.  They were almost too pretty to eat…but I ate one….or two?

Now, for the “Christmas Crack”…and I call it that because, and not that I’ve ever done crack, it is soooo addicting that you can’t put it down and next thing I know I’ve eaten enough for 5 people.  I only make it around Christmas because I’d be the size of the house if I allowed myself to eat it year round.

6 C Corn or Rice Chex Cereal
6 C Golden Graham Cereal
1 C slivered almonds
1 C sweetened coconut
1 C butter
1 C light corn syrup
1 C sugar

Mix first 4 ingredients in a large bowl.  Bring the butter, corn syrup and sugar to a boil on the stove.  Let boil for 4 minutes and then pour over dry ingredients and mix well.  Now, you can put it in a glass dish or just do like I do and keep it in a big bowl, tightly covered.  It goes so quickly and we just grab it by the handfuls until it’s gone.  It is the perfect texture, taste and super ooey, gooey and chewy!  If you have not had this before, you are either gonna love me (because it’s soooo good) or hate me (because it’s soooo good and you can’t stop yourself).  Enjoy!  and Merry Christmas!

Both of my kids received letters to bring a little goody to pass out to their class members during their Holiday Parties at school.  I wanted to something cute, different and easy.  I came up with this cute little printable on Photoshop and then just printed it out, cut it, and used a permanent tape runner to attach it to snack-size bags of Hershey Candy Cane Kisses!  The kids, parents and teachers all raved about how cute it was.  Oh, how I long for these little drops of peppermint goodness to arrive in stores every holiday season.  They.are.delish. Except that I can’t stop eating them.  So I grab a handful and then make my family take them away from me.

After dinner and a family dance competition, we had our own little Grinch party . Grinch Shakes and Grinch Pills were the perfect treat!

All I did for the Grinch Shakes was put lime sherbet and some 7-Up a little at a time in a blender (I added some pineapple juice to mine because I love it so much and I had a little extra from something else).  I then dipped the very top of the glasses in a little 7-Up and then dipped them in a little bowl of green sugar (find in the baking aisle at your grocery store). Of course, I have cute paper straws in every color in my pantry that I have picked up at craft stores or other stores (after holidays, they go on clearance in the holiday section).  That gives just the perfect touch!
