Elegant Fall Entry

Welcome to my home!  I’m using warm and cool tones together…colors I’ve never used before and I’m soooo loving it! I went to the Hot Skwash design studio in Tigard, Oregon (just across the river) and sat with Daria to design and plan what we wanted to do for my entry.

But let me pause for a brief moment and let me point out my new favorite moto jacket.  It’s less than $50 and this khaki color is so gorgeous right?!  The quality is beautiful and fits so nicely.  Just perfect with the fall, especially layered over with this tank I purchased over the summer (sold out but similar look here). It would look cute over so many different tops.

Back to my pumpkins…

We chose to use these colors for our entry color scheme: Spa, Wedgewood, Latte, and Bone.

A few weeks ago, I found these gorgeous gold eucalyptus stems, golden glittered faux money plant stems, and glittered beaded branches to replace all the cherry blossom stems that were in my ginger jars for spring and summer.

We added a couple of 4″ beaded pumpkins to adorn the arrangement and add a little something special.

I had a few gold ferns from last year’s stash as well I threw on the ends.

At the top of my staircase is a beautiful jumbo feathered pumpkin in “Cashew” and a 5″ Spa-colored pumpkin next to it.

I love this tall gold lantern.

I remembered I bought a dozen gold candle wreaths from World Market on clearance last year at the end of the season for less than a dollar each.  They were perfect for the tall gold lantern below and for this candle on the table also.  These jumbo velvet pumpkins with feathers from Hot Skwash are delicious, aren’t they?!

These chinoiserie panels make me swoon every time I walk up these stairs!

I love using furs in the fall and winter when decorating.  Throw a fur throw over a bench with a trio of pumpkins and it’s a perfect vignette. Easy peasy.

I love this view!  When we first moved in and received this chandelier from Bellacor, all 4 feet of it took my breath away. It’s coastal glam vibe with the mother of pearl, white wooden beads, and champagne finish was so perfect.  Every time we walk up and down the stairs or in and out the door, it makes me smile.  And now that it’s fall and the entry is adorned with pumpkins…I’m smiling extra big!

 

 

Elegant Fall Living Room

Last week I shared my Elegant Fall Mantel & Living Room In Gray & Gold tour.

Elegant Fall Kitchen

I originally had a few small pops of blush in my white and gold kitchen for fall but after setting my fall table, it just didn’t work with the blush in the background so I took it out.  So, white and gold it is and I’m loving it!  I have plenty of it, that’s for sure!

 

 

I cut some of this new beaded garland (I’ve bought a bunch of it for the holidays…it’s so pretty) and put it in this snack bowl with the pumpkin and loved the way it looked.

 

Find pieces, like cutting boards and metal wreaths or stands, that you love and layer them.

 

 

I used some of that beaded garland here too on this jumbo pumpkin by Hot Skwash. I love it!

 

The beautiful ornate hurricane on my mirrored tray.  It was a fun find at Ross. Can you believe it?! I just love it!

 

 

 

 

Elegant Fall Table

Earlier this week I shared my Elegant Fall Table in Gold, Ivory & Soft Aqua.

You can read that entire post for more details and to see the collection of limited edition Hot Skwash pumpkins here and here) that I used for this table, as well as all of the other pieces to create this look.

It was also a treat to add these gorgeous Aquarius goblets from my friends at Patina Vie.  I love creating fall tables with all of these beautiful details!

  

Elegant Fall Master Bedroom

I kept my blush pink velvet bedding for fall and winter and faux fur accents.

I brought my blush pink velvet pillows, also by Hot Skwash, from last year’s fall table and used them up in my room (and also Brooklyn’s room which I haven’t photographed yet).

I also brought up a few ivory pumpkins.  I thought they’d look so cute on my blush pink ottoman.

 

 

These mini pumpkins with Swarovski crystals are the prettiest for just the smallest, prettiest fall accents around my room!

In my sitting chair corner, it’s the coziest little seat with faux fur and pink pumpkins and I keep my favorite slippers there.  This is where I often sit to write in my gratitude journal.  There’s a lot of reflection that happens here!  And this sweater, by the way, is so soft and comfy for fall and winter!  I love the camel and blush colors in it too!

 

Pretty pumpkins adorn either end of my dresser and I love waking up and seeing them all each morning!

 

 

Each nightstand also has pink pumpkins.  I didn’t photograph my chaise lounge here in my bedroom!  But…there are some on my tray there too so I’ll need to update this post with a picture.  I just love the pumpkins!   I literally place them wherever I can in the bedroom and I’m so grateful my husband doesn’t mind all the pink because I sure enjoy it!

I’m so excited to share an update to our living room with all of you today!  When I first revealed our bright white living room after moving in last fall, I had rushed to find temporary lighting, a rug and some art for the walls.  It looked lovely but not exactly what I wanted or envisioned for that room.  Although I recently shared some fun touched to this room in my summer tour, we finally found the perfect chandelier and rug that I’d been wanting for this living room and also a fabulous new piece of art that has really brought it all together perfectly!

NEW LIVING ROOM CHANDELIER

BEFORE…..

I had most of our lighting chosen for the new house last fall as we were finishing the build of our home but I was panicking, as I really didn’t know yet what I wanted for this living room. I mean, I knew what I was envisioning but not finding it exactly.

I found this flush-mount lighting and since it had brass and some clear beaded strands for a reasonable price, I bought it to hold me over.  Our superintendent was needing our living room lighting ASAP.

AFTER…..

Do you hear angels singing?  Because I sure do!

This Crystorama Calypso 136-VG 6-Light Chandelier has the most beautiful crystal drops with a vibrant gold finish and it’s the perfect size for this living room!

I have always said that your chandelier is like the jewelry to your room and I wasn’t happy with my lighting before, but NOW….it finishes this room perfectly!  I’m so thrilled!

I love how breathtaking it is, as you walk into the living room from the entry of our home.  It definitely makes a statement and a great first impression!  My friends at Crystorama were gracious enough to partner up with me on this update to my living room and I was so thrilled because they had also collaborated with me on my Master Bathroom lighting and y’all KNOW how obsessed I’ve been with that lighting!  So many of you have gone crazy over it too!

NEW LIVING ROOM RUG

BEFORE….

The rug I previously had in our living room was beautiful.  There was nothing wrong with it at all.  It was actually good to get us through the winter months and wet feet.  But I felt it was too dark for this room.  You might disagree but last year I was in a store and found the perfect rug.  I even shared it on my Instagram stories and you all went NUTS over it and hoped I’d bought it.  But sadly….after I shared it with you, a man moved me aside to grab the rug for a customer who had asked for it.  Sad!  But I was able to find the rug I’d been dreaming of since that day.

AFTER…

It has the prettiest mix of cool ivory, beige and gray and goes so much better with this room.  It really brightens it up.  I also took the baskets out that were underneath the table.  It trapped the light from passing through and I felt like it made this entire coffee table look too dark and heavy.  But with a new rug and removing the baskets….the change was huge and now I love this space so much more!

Even Giorgio loves it!  It’s just so pretty and I’m thrilled with the difference it’s made in this room.

NEW LIVING ROOM ART

BEFORE…

When I first styled the room last fall, I couldn’t find a piece of art I was really loving specifically for this space.  I just used what I had from our last home that hadn’t been hung yet.  It was fine.

But then I met Craig Wellbrock, an artist here in the Pacific Northwest, and he sent me this piece.

I wanted one of his minimal abstract art pieces and then he went a step further to make it even more “me” and added this blush pink stripe.

Updated Living Room

I’m so pleased with how just a few small changes made such a HUGE impact on this room and gave it a whole new look!

The new chandelier and rug, along with removing those baskets under the coffee table and allowing light to pass through more freely, have all helped brighten this room and reflects more of my style and the feeling I wanted here in our living room.

In a place like here, in the Pacific Northwest that has lots of cloudy and rainy days, keeping my home bright and happy is so important.  I survived our first winter last year just fine!

Every time I’m home, no matter what the weather outside, it is bright inside and such a happy and beautiful place to be.  That’s really important to me.  I love being at home and having people over and entertaining.

The post Living Room Update: New Chandelier, Rug & Art appeared first on Summer Adams.

Early this year, I announced that my husband had taken a promotion with his company and we were relocating from Dallas, Texas and moving to Vancouver, Washington and building a home.  There is no more moving every couple of years for our family!  We are settling down as promised and staying put.  Three weeks ago we finally moved into our home on “Tall Trees Lane”, as we’ve nicknamed it, and today I am finally doing our first reveal.  So come on in as I welcome you to our bright white living room!

If you haven’t seen my post yet on our Interior Paint Color or the one on our Hardware I Chose, make sure to read them.  I also talk about the flooring I chose.

If you’ve followed me for a while, you know my affinity for a bright white home, as I write the “Bright White Home Series“, so my home was going to be just that.

This pretty Large Crystal Shell Jar was such a pretty addition to the corner of this room.

Downstairs, I’ve used all brass hardware and lighting.  I really love these warm gold curtain rods.

Deciding on curtains in this room was the hardest decision of this entire home.  It sounds silly but it’s true.  I ordered at least a half dozen different window treatments and none of them worked or looked just right.  But in the end, I knew I needed some shimmery white panels with geometric design and I knew I wanted them to puddle.

I just adore puddling curtains.

Another important decision….

…Built-ins!  There was no questions about them.  I knew we had to do them and they were worth the upgrade.  You don’t want to do them later or yourself.  You don’t want to do an IKEA hack….no!

You want to hire someone who is qualified and who will do an excellent job.  We have a “smurf tube” that goes from behind the TV and down to the bottom cabinet, where you’ll find our media.

It’s not only great for storage, but it’s also fun to style.

I just love having these windows above our built-ins to allow more light in.  I tried putting many different things on top of the built-ins but a pair of these gold link and acrylic candlesticks on each side won my heart.  I didn’t want anything to block the light passing through.

I’ve used a mixture of elements with mercury glass, brass and gold, marble, lucite, and wood.

We kept it simple, not overstyled or too full on each shelf, and we added personal pieces like the jar of shells and sand dollars that we’ve collected this summer.

Another important was lighting.  We have a very open concept floor plan downstairs.  The kitchen, dining, and living rooms all connect so the lighting had to flow well.  They didn’t have to match, but they needed the same elements.  When I reveal my dining and kitchen in the coming days, you’ll see what I mean.  This semi-flushmount crystal chandelier was a beautiful and perfect choice for this space.

With this light, we’re able to watch TV from the kitchen and not be distracted by it or have to look around it.  The brass and crystal beading are just the perfect “jewelry” on this room.

Remember this coffee table? Yep, it came with us from Dallas.  We sold a lot of our furniture but not this piece.  We loved it so much that we kept it.

It’s perfect for baskets and storage underneath and I love how this gold tray looks on top.

I love styling a coffee table, don’t you?!

I keep some of my favorite coffee table books here.

I also keep a pretty tray for remotes and jewelry I’ll take off and get comfy.  A fun game, pretty things like the jar and flowers, coasters, and a candle.  It’s the perfect mix of everything that you should have on your coffee table.

Another place I like to keep a couple of fun coffee table books is stacked under a beautiful vase on my mantel.

A few years ago while we lived in Vegas, I wrote a blog post on putting a TV above your mantel. It’s full of good ideas and can be helpful when deciding how to style around your television.

I chose a french mantel design without an arch and chose marble tile around the fireplace. I’m so pleased without how it turned out.  That touch of marble is perfect.

I don’t like a lot on my mantel but instead just a few beautiful statement pieces.  These 2 vases and candle include several of the elements I’m using in this room.  I love things in 3’s and in different heights, textures and colors.

I shared a peek of this rug in a previous post HERE.  I finally got to bring it into our new home and I love it.  This rug is from Boutique Rugs.  When they wanted to provide me with a rug for this room, I knew right away which one would be perfect and the Tibetan TBT-2300 was it.  I originally wanted something lighter but with it being winter and Giorgio (our Yorkie) running inside with semi-wet paws and fur, this darker gray won’t show any dirt or water or signs of traffic.  The quality is superb!  I’m so thrilled with it!

Since I recently purchased this chair before or move from Dallas and fell in love with it, it also got to come with us and go into storage for 6 months until our home was finished being built.  It is so comfortable!  It’s the Carpe Diem chair by Magnolia Home.

Do you see those trees in the background?  That is all around us and why we nicknamed this home “Tall Trees Lane”.  Our backyard is somewhat shallow but the sides are large and I can’t wait for spring to come so I can get my hands on that backyard and plant so many things and do the landscaping.  So many pretty plants and flowers grow well here in the Pacific Northwest and it’s going to be so fun!

Now, on to my favorite part of the room (besides all the windows)….these sofas!  I was so pleased that my friends at Joss & Main wanted to send me these 2 Josephine Tufted Sofas in Classic Bleach White.  I’ve had my eye on them and crossed my fingers that they’d be as beautiful in person as they were online.  And they were!!!

They arrived without any damage and as I opened them I gasped!  The tufting was beautiful and the nailhead trim on the sides and dark feet were such lovely traditional details.

This color, “Classic Bleach White” was the perfect color. It’s stunning and so is the tufting.  It was the prettiest white but had no blue tint to it. It looks gorgeous with both white and ivory pillows and throws.

The quality was extremely impressive and when I tell my friends the price, their jaw is on the floor.  One friend said they were expecting these sofas to be over three thousand a piece and from some high-end furniture store. And they’re so comfortable.  Every cushion is full and evenly stuffed.  They come with 2 plush pillows per sofa but I used my own decorative throw pillows.

Yes, we sit on them EVERY day!  We’ve had them for over 2 weeks and there is not a single mark on them. We’ve kept them clean.  I know….you’re going to ask me how to have kids and white furniture.  We’ve done it before and we’re doing it again.

How To Have White Furniture With Kids & Pets

Our little dog, Giorgio, is not allowed them. He has his bed on the floor next to our sofas. We don’t allow food out of the kitchen.  Our kids must wash their hands when they get home from school (and face if needed) and they need to change if their clothes are dirty or wet.  It’s not hard.  You just have to follow through and make sure the entire family follows the rules.  I’m confident that these gorgeous sofas will stay clean.  And if not, you can spot-clean the sofas.  I was referred to another blogger with the same fabric and color but a different sofa.  She couldn’t say enough about how much she and her family loved the sofas and about how easy the fabric was to clean.  Her children are much younger than mine.  I felt good about my decision and proceeded to order the sofas.  Everyone in our family loves them and we’re thrilled with our choice.

This bright white living room has been such a lovely place to welcome guests into our home and I am so pleased with how it turned out.  As you’ll also see in my kitchen that I’ll be sharing this week, I chose to design this bright white home because we will be having many gloomy cloudy days here in the Pacific Northwest.  Walking into a bright white home helps combat any gloomy days and will be a place of refuge as we adjust to this very different climate.  We aren’t in Texas anymore, ha!

The post Welcome To Our Bright White Living Room appeared first on Summer Adams.

Hello and welcome to my Living Room Tour – Part 1!  I’m so glad you joined me today as I bring you into one of my most-frequented rooms in our home.  This Dallas {rental} home we are in for the next year while living here has been a blessing but has been interesting and slightly challenging because of the layout.  Our family room is not as large as I’d like it to be the builder wanted this second living area just off the kitchen.  While it may not be my design choice for our future home, I am finding the joy and functionality of it in this home…for the time being.  It’s a place where the wives can leave the husbands {in the Family Room} while they talk about their golf game and come in here for some girl talk I finish dinner and serve hors d’oeuvres.

Wall color…
The homeowner remodeled a few years ago and used a custom grey paint for the walls but it matches exactly to Benjamin Moore Stonington Gray HC-170. It looks light here because of the time of day I took this photo but it’s honestly too dark for my liking the rest of the day because this room only gets good natural light in the late afternoon.  Otherwise I feel like it needs to be a much lighter color to lighten this part of the house.

My sofa….
If you follow me on Instagram you have probably heard me say that I found this sofa and MANY of my favorite pieces while we lived in Waco, Texas, for several years.  This sofa was in mint condition and I paid only $80 for it (gasp).  It still had plastic on it, I kid you not.  So make fun of the ladies that do that all you want but I can totally appreciate it now ha!  While I’d love a brand new tufted ivory sofa, I know I need to wait until we move into this next home to see how many sofas I’ll need in the next living room.  Until then, I took this dainty vintage sofa, that has usually been in my bedroom or office, and used it in my living room.  I also like to call it my “sitting room” because, well….my grandma had one and it just sounds like the perfect description for it as we often sit and visit.  Our dog ruined the bottom flap of the sofa last year so I refinished the bottom and painted it with light grey chalk paint and dark brown stain, using a dry-brushing technique. It was a blessing in disguise because now it definitely looks a little more contemporary and the wooden frame has the same distressed look as the end tables.

Design tip:  Try pulling your sofa away from the wall and closer to the center of the room, onto your area rug, to make it feel a little more cozy and intimate. Sometimes it can even make your room look bigger. If you’re entertaining for larger parties, you can always push it back and bring in extra seating to accommodate your guests.

Canvas art…

Earlier this year, as we found out we were moving again with our company and temporarily relocating to Dallas, I had just found this canvas art and knew I wanted it in my living room in the next house.  I have been a fan of Oliver Gal Art for years and always have one or two {or even three} pieces throughout my home.  This particular piece is called “Serving Roses” and it reminded me of the compost bowl I frequently keep on the coffee table, often filled with white roses as well.

Rug…

While several pieces in this room are feminine with soft lines, I wanted to off-set that with a bold geometric rug that was bright (again, helping the room appear lighter) but not too busy.

End Tables and Lamps…

The hunt for the perfect mirrored end tables was a little ridiculous.  They were either way out of my budget, the right price but too cheap looking, not the right size or style, and so on.  Then I happened upon these mirrored end tables and they were perfect!  They had the vintage, distressed look but with mirrored sides.  They complimented the soft, feminine lines as well as the bold, strong lines of other pieces in this room.  And the quality?  They’re awesome and I’m pleased.  These Glass Cylinder lamps were the perfect option and complimented the gold throughout the room.  I love, love, love mixing metals (just in case you couldn’t tell).

Coffee Table…

Just last week, I posted about the most popular coffee tables trending right now.  I shared a VERY EASY step-by-step tutorial on how I transformed this coffee table from its original state.  This IKEA hack of the Vittsjö nesting tables is a brilliant and extremely affordable way to have a coffee table with a gold metal frame and marble-like shelving.  I especially love it because I’m always up for changing pieces in my home and wanting to try new things and when I buy affordable pieces, I can afford to do that. So make sure you check out that tutorial and pin it for later!

Chaise Lounge…

I originally wanted to sofa chairs adjacent to my sofa but haven’t found that perfect pair yet.  Instead, I bought this tufted chaise lounge at the beginning of this year and found the perfect spot for it in my living room.  I always have one of four different ruffle throw blankets from my online shoppe draped across my chaise.  It’s the perfect spot to watch tv, read a book, sit and visit with friends, or even work on my laptop.

Curtains…

As I stated earlier, this room often feel darker and doesn’t get much natural light as the rest of the home does.  So in this post HERE, I talked about ways I brighten up my home and one of them being these curtains from IKEA. They are white linen-looking curtains that are sturdy and good quality, letting light flow through the room and into the next.  They were a great find since I’m not a fan of sheers.

Mantel & Chandelier…

Lastly on this Living Room Tour – Part 1….I said it before and I’ll say it again, I love mixing metals!  I adore silver and gold together and I love layering decor with different elements, textures and styles.  I grabbed {from my decor stash closet} some gold vintage frames of different sizes and then some candlesticks, the frame and mercury glass vase in the 3 different elements shown.  My mantel is a place I like to change up often, especially at the holidays, but for now…I’m liking it.

The chandelier…..I found it in a barn…..in Waco, TX…..it was $30.  I can’t even tell you how excited I was when a couple called me 5 years ago and asked if I wanted to come junkin’ (or pickin’ as some call it) in their barn as they were cleaning it out and had a TON of fun pieces and antiques and vintage items.  I never hung it up in our Waco home because I knew we’d be soon moving but I took it with us to Vegas and hung it above my kitchen sink (see here).  I spray-painted it rubbed oil bronze at the time and, after converting the spot from recessed canned lighting to pendant lighting, it gave such a beautiful sparkle when I had to do my dishes.  In May, after moving here, I knew I wanted to spray it gold and hang it in this room.  I sure love this vintage chandelier!

On the other side of the room is where our TV hangs and some other furniture.  However, that will be shared as Living Room Tour – Part 2, since I’m still waiting on something to be finished and I’m also feeling torn on another design decision I made.  That will be on the blog later on in the month.

The coffee table….always a topic of conversation.  It’s a piece noticed by all your guests and a major focal point of a room.  It might be your most-used piece, next to your sofa, in your living rooms.  You want them to be functional and durable but you want them to make a statement, right?  I finally found a perfect solution for a coffee table in my living room but now I’m searching for that perfect one to put in my family room. So here I am on the hunt and decided you would all probably LOVE to join me on the hunt as I look at the most popular coffee tables trending right now and where to find them.  Let’s go!

Ok, here’s one of my very favorites…

This Balustrade Salvaged Wood Coffee Table is an extremely popular coffee table from Restoration Hardware. My best friend bought this for her home and when I went to visit I had major heart eye as I walked in and saw it.  However, it starts at $1,825.  I’m not saying it’s not worth it.  But it is a little a lot out of my price range for a coffee table.  Mostly because I change things in my home ALL the time.  If I knew I could love it for 10 years and keep it around, we might be having a different conversation.  Wayfair also sells the EXACT coffee table HERE at about same price but they offer free shipping on their Baluster coffee table and you can get it in less than a week.

I also found this Uttermost Stratford Coffee Table from Wayfair for only $899.00 and I think I’m in love.  Mostly with the price but it’s gorgeous too!  Its chunky turned legs are a little bit different from the ones above but that price difference is fabulous!

If you’re looking for something a little more contemporary with strong lines but still want the wood element, this Coffee Table from Wayfair is a beautiful choice!

Here’s another like it that I love and have seen in many rooms.  The Varick Gallery Lexington Coffee Table is also a very popular and extremely affordable choice.

I’m really loving the trend of marble throughout the home right now.  I especially love it on a coffee table so this Isabelle Table by Donny Osmond is such a stunning option and I’m stunned at the low price.

However, if you’re really on a tight budget, may I suggest a similar look with this popular IKEA Vittsjö Nesting Tables Hack that I actually did for my living room!

These Vittsjö Nesting Tables come from IKEA and are ridiculously affordable.  They come in black or white but it doesn’t matter which you buy because they’re getting a fancy makeover anyway.  They look like this:

Here are the VERY SIMPLE DIY INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Put all metal legs together, per instructions.
2. Spray with gold spray paint of your choice but I prefer THIS one because it is not brassy or coppery.  It’s the perfect gold.  It’s my favorite and I use it on all my projects needing gold.
3.  After completely dry, add glass to tops.
4. Adhere marble-looking self-adhesive contact paper to the white shelf.

So here is my coffee table.  Easiest thing ever and I love it! I did the same to some bookshelves in my office which I’ll be posting soon.

As far as a gorgeous, traditional coffee table goes, my heart still goes pitter-patter for this Dresden Mirrored Coffee Table.  I think the price is right AND it’s actually on sale right now for Labor Day.

So, there are a few options to get your wheels turning.  These most popular coffee tables are very versatile and functional while making a statement as well.  I think I know which one I’m going to go with for my family room so stay tuned and find out!  I’ll be sharing my Family Room Reveal soon!
