Summer Backyard & Patio

Last week I shared our summer backyard in this post, as it’s our 2nd summer in this house, and we’ve made a few updates.

You can read more about our new patio awning here and also our new umbrella we love too!

They make summer dining so much more fun and I plan on entertaining a lot this summer!  We have 2 other outdoor spaces in the works but with some new unexpected health issues since May, they had to be put on hold.  Hoping we might get to them before we leave to Europe this summer.  Crossing my fingers!

Easy Summer Dining

We eat out on the patio most nights this time of year.  Here in the Pacific Northwest, it actually cools down in the evenings and we have the prettiest view of the sunset behind our home so we love eating out back.

These melamine plates above are our favorite (linked at end of post too).  They’re so easy to take out back and they just wash and rinse off so quickly and are so easy to use most nights.  The cute melamine pink goblets are from HomeGoods and I found them in blue also and bought them in several different sizes (goblets, tall and small tumblers) for outdoor dining.

I found the cutest pink plasticware and at HomeGoods and also this caddy that I use and keep this and other plasticware or flatware in so we can just grab it and take it outside.  It makes dinner time so easy.

These plates again!  You can mix and match them with so many different things to make different place settings.  They’re so darling and so versatile!  I also love these hobnail melamine goblets.  They’re another summer dining staple of mine.

I love pulling out all my fun plates and mixing fun summery colors, whether we are eating indoors or outdoor, for summer dining. 

I have soooo many different plates, especially for spring and summer, so I like to make a point to pull them out since we aren’t rushing around in the summer.  

This pretty blue dress is one of my new favorite summer dresses.  I’ve been a big fan of Rachel Parcell’s dresses and own almost a dozen of them.  This blue dress is so light, airy, feminine, and has the prettiest ruffled sleeves and layers.  It’s so comfortable and so flattering!

 

I like to be a little more thoughtful about setting a simple but lovely table for my family and especially for friends when they come and join us.  I love using the plates and napkins in my cabinets and not just saving them for a blog post or a special occasion.  That doesn’t make sense to me.

Summer Living Room

Guess what?  My summer living room is staying exactly the same! I changed it for spring and love the blush and green so much that it’s staying.

The only thing I was going to change was the custom drapes that are being made for the downstairs but they’re not finished yet.  Stay tuned for that.  I’m so excited to share those with you!

Pink and green is so fresh, don’t you think?!  Last year I did pink and blue and loved it but really wanted something different and new this year.

I don’t know why I was so nervous about the green….maybe because I’d never decorated with it before.  Ok not true…I did about 11 years ago but it’s been forever.  But green with the blush….oh I just loved it.

 

Summer Kitchen

My summer kitchen means two things…..fresh flowers and fresh fruit.  All the time.  Yep.  We love it.

I just cut the rest of the peonies off of my peony bushes and brought them inside.  I have a large rose garden too and many other types of flowers in my garden so I love cutting them and bringing them in.  I don’t grow my own fruit yet (planted my first apple and lemon trees) but we go and pick our own fruit here at all the orchards around town and have TONS of fruit constantly.  It’s heavenly!

Summer Entry Way – New Hand-painted Chinoiserie Framed Panels

I love this warm glow in my entry in the summer afternoons!  This long lace kimono and a light blue pair of denim is the perfect go-to for an evening out (since it’s not so hot in the evenings) like a concert in the park, dinner out on the restaurant patio, dinner and shopping downtown…whatever.  It’s light and feminine and very summery.

My friends from the Collective and Company reached out to me earlier this year and introduced their GORGEOUS hand-painted chinoiserie panels to me.  I was so excited to receive these beautiful panels in my home and knew exactly where they’d go.  I’d been looking for the perfect art work for a year and a half since we moved in here.  

 

They are even more gorgeous in person and come in several different color options.  My largest ginger jar with faux dogwood branches at the top of the first stair landing was a beautiful compliment to the panels.

They make such a dramatic and stunning statement when you walk in the door now.  It’s exactly what this entry needed!!!!

I changed my entry from pink and blue to this gorgeous light seafoam or spa blue color and some darker blue accents.

 Did you see my Instagram stories the other day?  This was my ugly Salvation Army ginger jar for $2.49 (it was yellow and green sunflower-patterned) and I hand-painted it a white-blue ombre with acrylic and chalk paint I had here at home.  I love how it turned out for my entry!

 

I found this darling bird at Canon Beach at a boutique on Spring Break.  It’s perfect for my new entry!

This new ornate candle holder from HomeGoods was also the perfect addition for my entry.  I have a new runner on the way for my entry and new bench that both arrive by Friday so I’ll update this post with them AND share them on Instagram so stay tuned for that.  Other than that and this candle holder, I didn’t want to buy any new decor for the summer.  I wanted to shop my home and move things around.  Speaking of….

I brought this chair down from the bonus room (that has also been in the family room) and switched out what was here to give a fresh new look.  I’m loving it!  Do you ever “shop your home” and move stuff around?  It’s a great way to save money and a great way to re-love your things again when you get sick of your spaces.

Simple white summer dresses, sandals, messy buns, and straw totes are a great summer staple!  I’ll link a bunch of great summer white dresses below.  This was my favorite from last year but there are so many cute ones for sale online right now that I’m tempted to buy.  (How many white sundresses does a girl need?  haha) Oh, and don’t forget big earrings!  I love big earrings with a messy bun.

A quick glimpse at last year’s blush and blue spring decor….

I truly loved the blush and blue and still do.  In fact, you’ll see more blush and blue this year in my entry but I wanted to do something different than I’ve done before in my living room and kitchen, which are the 2 areas I’m sharing today.

A funny personal note….

I started doing makeup over 20 years ago and I always tell people that of ALL the mascaras I’ve used over the years, from high-end to drug store mascaras, my all-time favorite is still that pink and green tube of Maybelline Mascara.  I also happen to love that color combo!  So I went with that.  Ok, maybe not those same shades of pink and green but nevertheless….those colors look great together and just scream “SPRING!” to me.

I bought a few new fun home decor accessories but then just moved some others around.

 

 

I ordered new chenille leopard print pillows in this lovely chartreuse green.  I also found these gorgeous velvet striped blush pillows that were the last of their kind (custom made in Turkey) but if you contact the shop owner, he may have some scraps of material of some similar to make you some other pillows.  I was obsessed when I saw them and had to have them.  I love this combo.  I added some velvet white pillows that I’ve had for a while to just add an extra “plush” feel and more comfort when sitting on the sofa.  These inserts are inexpensive and absolutely fabulous.  They feel so expensive.  (These are all linked in the “Shop The Post” section below at the end of the post.)

I was so excited one of my favorite candles ever now comes in in this pretty green jar.  It was perfect for my spring coffee table.

I really wanted to bring in a lot of beautiful floral but my weekly fresh floral budget keeps growing and it shouldn’t, ha!  So, I wanted to invest in some good faux floral and keep the fresh arrangements down to 2-3 a week.  I shopped around online and ordered a bunch of different faux florals that even some friends had recommended and guess what?  I wasn’t too impressed.  So I went back to the drawing board and ordered some more. I tried new things.  I ultimately found a bunch of gorgeous ones that I loved at JoAnn’s AND also at Amazon.

These faux peonies pictured above are from 2 different bunches that I found on Amazon, these and these.  Their stems aren’t very thick but the rest of them are just beautiful and they have lots of different varieties of shades.

When I think of spring, I think of all my garden flowers blooming.  It hasn’t happened yet, but when it does, I have my French basket ready, my sun hat, and my fingers cant wait to get in that dirt and get my garden going again and seeing new flowers and buds!  Until then….here are the gorgeous faux florals I found at JoAnn’s that I mentioned above.  Stay tuned because next week I’m showing you something soooo fun that I’m doing with them!  You’ll LOVE it!

I shared this vase last year (I have 2 blush vases on each side of the TV) but just bought this darling pot and put faux roses and limelight hydrangeas in them.

 

Of course, I can’t resist framing an old spring photo of my kids from 7 years ago before church one day, especially when it matches my decor.

Let’s bring out the bar cart!  It’s ready for spring and ready for the entire family!  Chocolates, limeade and pink lemonade!

 

In the kitchen, I’m mixing fresh and faux florals also.

I found these large faux cherry blossom stems a couple of years ago at Michael’s and they’re still gorgeous.  I added a green vase I found at an antique store and filled it with fresh roses.

 

 

 

 

I love putting away winter hand soaps and dish soaps and bringing back out my favorite pink grapefruit soaps.  It’s perfect for spring and it’s also soooo pretty!

New lime green hand towels, my blush pink dish apron and fresh flowers at the sink….it’s so “spring”, right?!

I found the prettiest little round green vase on clearance at HomeGoods last month and it was perfect for my spring decor so…THANK YOU to all the people that didn’t want it because I was able to get it for like $4.  Woohoo!

Isn’t that so fun and bright and cheery?!  I just love it!  Pink roses, pink carnations, and even some lime carnations mixed in there made such a lovely mix.

Carnations are so under-rated.  Don’t you agree?!  They are inexpensive, beautiful and ruffly, they come in all different colors and shades, and they are a great filler.  They complement other flowers without stealing the show.  Grab a bunch to save money on your next floral arrangement.

Moving into the living room, last week I shared our whimsical glam mantel to give you a little taste of the theme in here.

With the new Nutcracker Movie being released this year, and having 2 young children who still love the magic of Christmas, I was inspired to bring some fun “creatures” into our living room and bring a touch of whimsy.  These crowned swans were just the thing I had imagined!

I also shared our cozy glam hot cocoa bar station on the other side of the living room.

Adding one of my favorite deer heads that I’ve had for several years, and glamming her up a bit, was another perfect touch of whimsy.

Whimsical Glam Flocked Christmas Tree In Pastels

Tree #2!  Last year the tree in here was touching the ceiling and 1 1/2 feet wider and very full but it just swallowed this room.

This year I wanted this slimmer tree so that I wouldn’t have to move the furniture around. I’m sooo loving this tree and so glad I got it!

I also wanted a tree that was less full so that more light could pass through and also be able to tuck these soft maribou feather boas into it to look like soft fallen snow. I took each boa, folded it over and “doubled up” to make them look fuller and just tucked them in and out of the branches as if snow had just fallen there. I think I used 9 total!
I also have a pretty little tutorial on that middle ornament.

Hobby Lobby had all these pretty dusty blue and blush pink poinsettia stems this year and I was so thrilled!  I grabbed all of my sparkly white stems and ornaments to cover the tree and then just added small touches of the blue and blush.

All of my gifts always coordinate with my tree.  I’ve found such pretty wrapping papers and gift bags at HomeGoods and Target again this year, and the gift boxes as well.  I ordered pretty velvet ribbons from Etsy.

Tip: Don’t be afraid to add small Christmas decor items and stems around your gifts to create an even more beautiful look around your tree.

I love the soft look of this tree as the sun shines through and gives that glow.

I spent hours online looking for dusty blue velvet throw pillows and after having no success, I walked into HomeGoods one day and found these pretty ones with snowflake motifs.

Also there were these blush pink faux fur throw pillows that were more on the peachy side and less on the mauve side, just as I wanted.

On my coffee table I placed some faux fur beneath my “angel tray”.  This year I added all 3 of my angels to this pretty tray, along with one of my pretty deers and this bowl of ornaments.

I usually place my ornaments in a different pedestal bowl but I found this sparkly bowl at ZGallerie this year and knew it would be perfect.  You can use double-sided satin or velvet ribbon to tie on the ends for extra elegance.

The Prettiest Blush Pink Velvet Pumpkins

Recently I met Daria, the designer and creator behind Hot Skwash, and had the privilege of going to her office/warehouse  in Tigard, Oregon (just across the river from us) and see all of the gorgeous pumpkins and other creations in person.  She was so gracious to collaborate with me and help me create gorgeous fall vignettes with her pumpkins.  I recently shared some of her gorgeous pumpkins in my fall master bedroom post.

I told Daria that I had blush pink and golds and taupes in my living room and into my kitchen AND she knows how much I love pink so she made sure to send me home with a plethora of these new blush pink velvet pumpkins that she released this year.  I thought of mixing them with some other colors but we both agreed that it would break up the pink and not look as stunning.

I decided to do the same thing with faux blush fall roses (I used them in these candle wreaths also and on my fall mantel) and keep it monochromatic because using white roses or lighter blush pink roses took away from the blush pumpkins and distracted your attention.  I wanted them to compliment them instead.

I originally planned on using a certain tablecloth BUT when I brought out the eucalyptus and faux roses to place in between my pumpkins, I immediately knew that they’d look best on my pretty grey-stained table I refinished.  I love the rustic-glam look it created!

I recently received these gorgeous new blush and gold goblets and I’m soooooo in-love with them!  They were perfect for this tablescape!

Daria showed me these mini blush pumpkins with swarovski crystals and my jaw hit the floor!  I had to have them.  They not only look cute on top of each setting but they’d be so cute with a name card tied to them OR to give as a little gift or party favor if you were having a shower or brunch with girlfriends.

Aren’t they precious?!

Oh!  And I love that each pumpkin stem is signed by Daria herself….just like every piece of art should be!

I decided to use my gold chargers, vintage milk glass dishes and layered them with my white beaded dishes.

These blush pink ruffle dinner napkins made another appearance with my “goldie-ware”, as I call it (you call it gold flatware…haha).

Romantic Fall Table By Candlelight 

If you’re a regular reader, you know how much I love Agapé Candles, especially these new fall scents, and they were perfect to bring out at night in their pretty mercury glass votive sizes.

Cue music, light a fire in fireplace, add yummy food and you have the most beautiful and romantic blush rustic glam fall table with the prettiest blush velvet pumpkins.  Oh!  And good company, of course!

I’m so excited to share an update to our living room with all of you today!  When I first revealed our bright white living room after moving in last fall, I had rushed to find temporary lighting, a rug and some art for the walls.  It looked lovely but not exactly what I wanted or envisioned for that room.  Although I recently shared some fun touched to this room in my summer tour, we finally found the perfect chandelier and rug that I’d been wanting for this living room and also a fabulous new piece of art that has really brought it all together perfectly!

NEW LIVING ROOM CHANDELIER

BEFORE…..

I had most of our lighting chosen for the new house last fall as we were finishing the build of our home but I was panicking, as I really didn’t know yet what I wanted for this living room. I mean, I knew what I was envisioning but not finding it exactly.

I found this flush-mount lighting and since it had brass and some clear beaded strands for a reasonable price, I bought it to hold me over.  Our superintendent was needing our living room lighting ASAP.

AFTER…..

Do you hear angels singing?  Because I sure do!

This Crystorama Calypso 136-VG 6-Light Chandelier has the most beautiful crystal drops with a vibrant gold finish and it’s the perfect size for this living room!

I have always said that your chandelier is like the jewelry to your room and I wasn’t happy with my lighting before, but NOW….it finishes this room perfectly!  I’m so thrilled!

I love how breathtaking it is, as you walk into the living room from the entry of our home.  It definitely makes a statement and a great first impression!  My friends at Crystorama were gracious enough to partner up with me on this update to my living room and I was so thrilled because they had also collaborated with me on my Master Bathroom lighting and y’all KNOW how obsessed I’ve been with that lighting!  So many of you have gone crazy over it too!

Crystorama has the prettiest lighting solutions!  I’m so in-love with this one I chose!

NEW LIVING ROOM RUG

BEFORE….

The rug I previously had in our living room was beautiful.  There was nothing wrong with it at all.  It was actually good to get us through the winter months and wet feet.  But I felt it was too dark for this room.  You might disagree but last year I was in a store and found the perfect rug.  I even shared it on my Instagram stories and you all went NUTS over it and hoped I’d bought it.  But sadly….after I shared it with you, a man moved me aside to grab the rug for a customer who had asked for it.  Sad!  But I was able to find the rug I’d been dreaming of since that day.

AFTER…

I partnered up with RugSavings.com and they had this rug I loved so much, the Dynamic Rugs Quartz 27030 Area Rug in Ivory/Beige.

It has the prettiest mix of cool ivory, beige and gray and goes so much better with this room.  It really brightens it up.  I also took the baskets out that were underneath the table.  It trapped the light from passing through and I felt like it made this entire coffee table look too dark and heavy.  But with a new rug and removing the baskets….the change was huge and now I love this space so much more!

Even Giorgio loves it!  It’s just so pretty and I’m thrilled with the difference it’s made in this room.

NEW LIVING ROOM ART

BEFORE…

When I first styled the room last fall, I couldn’t find a piece of art I was really loving specifically for this space.  I just used what I had from our last home that hadn’t been hung yet.  It was fine.

But then I met Craig Wellbrock, an artist here in the Pacific Northwest, and he sent me this piece.

I wanted one of his minimal abstract art pieces and then he went a step further to make it even more “me” and added this blush pink stripe.

Updated Living Room

I’m so pleased with how just a few small changes made such a HUGE impact on this room and gave it a whole new look!

The new chandelier and rug, along with removing those baskets under the coffee table and allowing light to pass through more freely, have all helped brighten this room and reflects more of my style and the feeling I wanted here in our living room.

In a place like here, in the Pacific Northwest that has lots of cloudy and rainy days, keeping my home bright and happy is so important.  I survived our first winter last year just fine!

Every time I’m home, no matter what the weather outside, it is bright inside and such a happy and beautiful place to be.  That’s really important to me.  I love being at home and having people over and entertaining.

Finally!  We’ve been in this home for 9 months and decided what we wanted to do in the guest bedroom and today we’re sharing the result with you.  I’m so glad you could join me today for our coastal glam guest bedroom reveal!

I had originally decided to do some kind of wallpaper mural on this back wall, behind the headboard, but when it arrived it just didn’t feel right.  For months we tried looking at it, hoping it would become what I had envisioned but it just wasn’t happening.  Fun idea, but my gut told me, “Not for this room”.  And that’s okay!  Listen to that and go with it!

I came across this gorgeous Ocean Blue Faux Grasscloth Wallpaper on D. Marie Interiors and immediately fell in love.  This was the wallpaper! It’s “sky” color was such a pretty medium blue, with lighter and darker tones throughout the design as well.  I knew it was going to allow me endless possibilities and fun combinations in this space.  In just a few hours, my friend and I had it up.  It was our first time but it went well!  Check out her site for other beautiful wallpapers!

These pretty white nightstands were such a good price and the perfect size for this small little guest bedroom.  I found these to-die-for gold leaf turned table lamps on Perigold’s website and, since I’m a Perigold Tastemaker, they sent them to me for this space.  They have since sold out (quickly) but they have so many other gorgeous options HERE!

This gorgeous sunburst mirror also came from Perigold, as well as these lovely Caitlin Wilson blue floral pillow covers.  As soon as I saw these pillows, I knew they’d be perfect because I wanted a couple of soft feminine touches to this room.  All other pillows and the rest of the bedding were from HomeGoods but I’ll have links for them at the end of the post in the “Shop The Post” section .

I used this chandelier and another just like it back in our Dallas kitchen and nook and decided that, even though it was a cooler gold, I liked it in the guest bedroom.

The last thing I wanted for this room was just a small slipper chair to rest any guest’s bags or sit on to take off their shoes…or to sit and read on.  I wanted it to be comfortable but smaller and stylish.  I envisioned something blue and white striped that went with the wallpaper and I found it!  The price is fantastic and you can shop it HERE or HERE.

This room is going to be fun to change up and add different accent colors to, especially this little chair.  It’s so cute when I bring in some pops of blush pink!  So fun, right?!

The wall to the right of the windows has gorgeous artwork coming that has been backordered so check back soon because I’ll be updating this post when it arrives and sharing photos.  They are gorgeous coastal photos that will be soothing for guests and perfect for this “coastal glam” guest bedroom.

This is the same curtain rod and rings that I used in my office and living room and loved them enough to use them again here.  These curtains are the perfect ivory, not too white or too creamy, good quality and fabric, pinch-pleated, and the price is phenomenal.  I’m going to hem them but for now, a little puddling looks nice.

This is our first official spring here in the Pacific Northwest and it is quite different than spring back in Texas.  In 3 words I’ll just say…..

It is glorious!!!

The weather is absolutely perfect!  Everything is green and flowers are blooming, birds are chirping, it’s mostly sunny but a rain here and there to cool things off, we’ve been playing and gardening outside and taking walks and picnic-ing.  It’s truly been lovely!  I just shared the very beginning stage of my backyard last week and the French-inspired back patio (that’s already had a bunch of new changes).  So now it’s time to work on the front and share it with you!

For the front door of our Craftsman-style home, I wanted to create a wreath for the spring and summer that was full of greenery to compliment the new white planter boxes and ferns I planted.

I ran to my nearest craft store, which was Michaels, and grabbed a grapevine wreath that was on sale for about $10.  I also grabbed a variety of spring faux greenery stems that were 50% off.  I can’t really tell you how many stems to get because it’s up to you and how full you want to make it.

I would just say to grab a few of each variety and then do like I did and take back what you don’t use.  I grabbed a few different varieties of faux fern stems, eucalyptus, and boxwood.

Now, I made a DIY Boxwood & Magnolia Wreath back in Texas a couple of years ago and had to use twine and floral wire to start securing those stems to the grapevine.  That’s because it was sooooo hot in Texas that if I had used hot glue, it would have melted off the wreath on those hottest summer days and fallen apart.

But now that we’re in the Pacific Northwest, and since our door is shaded and not directly in the sun, I went ahead and clipped stems and started hot-gluing them on to the wreath like crazy.  A month later, with heavy rain and wind here and there, it’s holding up perfectly fine.

For the asymmetrical look, just choose one side you want cover and which direction you want to go and then work around, piece by piece and top to bottom.

I also grabbed a few little bunches of faux snowball stems and other little greenish-white flower stems and added a few touches on there.  I had to add some floral but I didn’t want to go overboard on this particular design and take away from all the pretty fern varieties and other stems.

Since I have black on my front porch door mat and black metal porch lights (see more on those here), I wanted to tie that all in with some thick black and white striped wired ribbon.  So I created a big bow and fastened that on with floral wire.

I really like the way that looks!  I think it turned out nicely and I’m really loving the asymmetrical look.  It’s definitely different than my last DIY wreath but still green and fresh-looking!

I ordered these white Nantucket-style planter boxes for my front door and drilled a couple more holes in the bottom and they’re perfect!  I love the look!  I chose to plant ferns in them because A) they’re inexpensive B) will grow quite a bit and look nice and full C) you water them a lot the first week and then they are totally easy maintenance after that and D) they tolerate all that shade really well.

I still have more flowers to plant in the front yard this week, as I’ve been giving so much attention to the backyard.  And wait until you see what I’m adding in between my garages!  But anyway, I love the way this simple DIY wreath looks with the planters on my front porch.  What do you think?

When I shared our Guest Bathroom a few weeks ago, I mentioned how hard it was to photograph because there were no windows (being in the center of the house).

 The same thing goes for this kids bathroom and our laundry room.  So bare with me as I did my absolute best to capture these shots of the bathroom with all the natural light I could get from the hallway and bonus room windows.

Now that we live on the West Coast and live in a Craftsman-style home, I’ve really loved embracing coastal elements in my design.  I reflected on our friends’ Beach House bathroom and then when I found this coastal canvas art at Ross for $19.99, I knew I wanted a bathroom that was coastal chic for the kids and incorporate these blue-greens into this bright white space. We have a son and a daughter so it was a style they were both in favor of, since it wasn’t just a boy or girl bathroom.

I knew I wanted these mirrors but finding the right sconce took much longer.  I imagined something with wooden beads but something chic.

When I found this Didier 2-Light Candle Wall Sconce , I knew it would be perfect.  It was like a sconce and a chandelier….the best of both worlds.

It also had those wooden beads and definitely meets my “coastal chic” requirement.

We stuck with large white tile and thin grout for the floors and counter top.  We’ll change the counter top later because I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do at the time we were building and I had to make a quick decision.  I’m also still deciding on a backsplash but we’ll get to that in a second.

I partnered with my friends at Hardware Resources on this gorgeous polished chrome Hayworth Cabinet Pulls.

I’ve also linked them below, for your shopping convenience.  We used these same pulls in our laundry room (reveal coming at a later time) and also our Master Bathroom that we shared a couple of weeks ago.

Lovely little details like seafoam green bathmats, an acrylic tray and bathroom jars, bathroom towels with hints of seafoam, a sea-green vase with an Aurora Borealis finish, and this casual shower curtain (that looks identical to one of our beach towels) helped create the clean coastal feel I wanted.

Ok, so I mentioned the backsplash earlier…..
Here are the few that we are looking at.  There’s one that I think is in the lead, for me, but I’ll reveal that when it’s been finished.  I have this crazy desire to do it myself.  I love a good DIY and home improvement project.

Will it be the sea green glass tile backsplash?

Will it be the Mother of Pearl Mermaid Scales tile?

Or will it be the Mother of Pearl penny tile for the backsplash?

Just a few months ago, we moved into our new home as it was finished being built.  As we’ve settled in and have finished organizing and decorating rooms I’ve been revealing them to you here, one by one. Today I’m taking you into a room that’s all my own, where I create and think and write and plan and dream.  Join me as I reveal to you my blush and gold glam office!

This upstairs office is just next to our master bedroom and the only space upstairs with the same flooring as our downstairs.

I kept my long white desk that we had back in our Dallas home.  It’s from IKEA and I love it because it’s so long that I can work on a couple of projects at once.  I can sew on it if I want to or pull out my small sewing folding table. (Note: I think they only make this desk in black/brown now and not white but you could prime and paint it. It’s a great piece!)

I wish I could find one as long as it but with drawers.

Until then, I have a vintage piece that I keep next to my desk, full of office supplies and holds my printer.

I once had these mirrored candle wall sconces (found at Tuesday Morning a couple of years ago) and this pretty chandelier canvas art by Oliver Gal called “Candelabro” in our living room back in our home in Dallas.

I like the subtle grey of the art blending with the wall and the gold and blush tones.  It was perfect for this blush and gold glam office!

HOW TO HIDE CORDS:

One of the most frequent problems of any office is how to conceal the router and cords so that everything looks tidy and beautiful.  For a couple of months I searched for pretty boxes to hide them in, as this was the only way with the style of desk I have and not much to hide it behind.  I already have many pretty boxes in my office but they weren’t large enough to put everything in.  I decided to grab a $5 white IKEA file box and use blush paint and water to create an ombré watercolor design.  It’s simple and it matches.  All the cords go through the back hole of the box.

I made sure everything on my desk was blush, gold, and white and pretty to look at.

Blush pens, pretty mugs, coordinating portfolios, pretty notebooks, candles and accessories.
And of course…there’s my favorite bow chair.

It gets soooo bright in my office but I love my view with the big windows.  I get to watch all the horses run around on the beautiful property next to us and I get to see the most beautiful sunsets out the back window.  I love having a lot of natural light in my office.  I would hate for it to feel like a dungeon.

This is a popular IKEA hack.  The Vittsjö shelving system is inexpensive, can be sprayed gold, and is a beautiful way to store things.

I keep a lot of files in boxes, rather than a filing cabinet.  I like the way it looks and is a prettier way to store important documents.  It also takes up less space.

I styled the shelves with not only pretty boxes of important files but also with pieces that are new to my online shoppe.

I have a lovely collection of fashion books that I also keep here.

I also display jewelry on the top and one of my favorite prints that a friend gave me, trimmed in gold glitter and in a mirrored frame.

I wanted a way to display this Audrey Hepburn quote, that I’ve always loved, and created this darling print on photoshop.  I thought you all might enjoy it too so I’m offering it as a free printable.

My favorite blush chair (originally shared in this post) also came with us from Dallas.  I like to call this my “instafamous blush chair” because this Nate Berkus-designed chair caught his eye on my Instagram feed (back when my IG name was “SheLeavesALittleSparkle”) and he even included it in his blog post.  You can read all about it HERE on Nate Berkus’ blog.

At a California Interior Designer’s warehouse sale back home, I found that lovely venetian-bordered mirror with gold distressing.  It’s really unique and I love the glam feel of it.  I knew it would be perfect above my chair.

 When I’m typing or creating something, I usually sit in my favorite bow chair at my desk.

If I’m going to be writing or editing a while, I like to sit in my blush chair.  I also like it because it’s a place my kids can come, or my hubby, and sit and talk to me while I’m in my office.

I looked and looked for a chandelier that felt right for this office.  I wanted crystals on it, more modern clean lines, and brass or gold metal.  I found it here.

A couple of years ago I wrote a blog post on DIY Framed Wallpaper Panels as a solution to a bare wall.  We were renting at the time, back in Dallas, and knew we’d be moving for my husband’s job but I really loved wallpaper.  So I made framed wallpaper panels (so easy) and loved how it turned out.

I enjoyed them but was looking for something new for this new office.  I tried fashion art in a collage and I tried several large pieces of art but in the end….nothing seemed quite right.  I pulled out the panels from my “for sale” pile in my garage and fell in love with them again.  I love the champagne and blush colors with the gold frames.

I sold 2 other pieces of furniture that just didn’t fit this office and didn’t give me the storage solution I wanted for all my crafty things, customer orders, and shipping supplies.  But I came across this vintage dresser being sold locally on Craigslist and knew it would be perfect.

I painted it and sprayed the vintage handles gold instead of replacing them because I thought they were so cool. Aren’t they pretty?!

A treat for visitors…because macarons and chocolates are the best treats. Don’t you wish you could reach through the screen right now and have one?  I wish you could too.  If you were here in person, I’d even make you a Dirty Diet Coke!

I found these lovely etagere end tables at Tuesday Morning a couple of years ago but I’m linking similar ones below.  They’re perfect for the sides of my large office window to help frame the room and add extra storage.

In the other corner is a lamp for a little extra night on those late nights.
