Elegant Fall Entry

Welcome to my home!  I’m using warm and cool tones together…colors I’ve never used before and I’m soooo loving it! I went to the Hot Skwash design studio in Tigard, Oregon (just across the river) and sat with Daria to design and plan what we wanted to do for my entry.

But let me pause for a brief moment and let me point out my new favorite moto jacket.  It’s less than $50 and this khaki color is so gorgeous right?!  The quality is beautiful and fits so nicely.  Just perfect with the fall, especially layered over with this tank I purchased over the summer (sold out but similar look here). It would look cute over so many different tops.

Back to my pumpkins…

We chose to use these colors for our entry color scheme: Spa, Wedgewood, Latte, and Bone.

A few weeks ago, I found these gorgeous gold eucalyptus stems, golden glittered faux money plant stems, and glittered beaded branches to replace all the cherry blossom stems that were in my ginger jars for spring and summer.

We added a couple of 4″ beaded pumpkins to adorn the arrangement and add a little something special.

I had a few gold ferns from last year’s stash as well I threw on the ends.

At the top of my staircase is a beautiful jumbo feathered pumpkin in “Cashew” and a 5″ Spa-colored pumpkin next to it.

I love this tall gold lantern.

I remembered I bought a dozen gold candle wreaths from World Market on clearance last year at the end of the season for less than a dollar each.  They were perfect for the tall gold lantern below and for this candle on the table also.  These jumbo velvet pumpkins with feathers from Hot Skwash are delicious, aren’t they?!

These chinoiserie panels make me swoon every time I walk up these stairs!

I love using furs in the fall and winter when decorating.  Throw a fur throw over a bench with a trio of pumpkins and it’s a perfect vignette. Easy peasy.

I love this view!  When we first moved in and received this chandelier from Bellacor, all 4 feet of it took my breath away. It’s coastal glam vibe with the mother of pearl, white wooden beads, and champagne finish was so perfect.  Every time we walk up and down the stairs or in and out the door, it makes me smile.  And now that it’s fall and the entry is adorned with pumpkins…I’m smiling extra big!

 

 

Elegant Fall Living Room

Last week I shared my Elegant Fall Mantel & Living Room In Gray & Gold tour.

Elegant Fall Kitchen

I originally had a few small pops of blush in my white and gold kitchen for fall but after setting my fall table, it just didn’t work with the blush in the background so I took it out.  So, white and gold it is and I’m loving it!  I have plenty of it, that’s for sure!

 

 

I cut some of this new beaded garland (I’ve bought a bunch of it for the holidays…it’s so pretty) and put it in this snack bowl with the pumpkin and loved the way it looked.

 

Find pieces, like cutting boards and metal wreaths or stands, that you love and layer them.

 

 

I used some of that beaded garland here too on this jumbo pumpkin by Hot Skwash. I love it!

 

The beautiful ornate hurricane on my mirrored tray.  It was a fun find at Ross. Can you believe it?! I just love it!

 

 

 

 

Elegant Fall Table

Earlier this week I shared my Elegant Fall Table in Gold, Ivory & Soft Aqua.

You can read that entire post for more details and to see the collection of limited edition Hot Skwash pumpkins here and here) that I used for this table, as well as all of the other pieces to create this look.

It was also a treat to add these gorgeous Aquarius goblets from my friends at Patina Vie.  I love creating fall tables with all of these beautiful details!

  

Elegant Fall Master Bedroom

I kept my blush pink velvet bedding for fall and winter and faux fur accents.

I brought my blush pink velvet pillows, also by Hot Skwash, from last year’s fall table and used them up in my room (and also Brooklyn’s room which I haven’t photographed yet).

I also brought up a few ivory pumpkins.  I thought they’d look so cute on my blush pink ottoman.

 

 

These mini pumpkins with Swarovski crystals are the prettiest for just the smallest, prettiest fall accents around my room!

In my sitting chair corner, it’s the coziest little seat with faux fur and pink pumpkins and I keep my favorite slippers there.  This is where I often sit to write in my gratitude journal.  There’s a lot of reflection that happens here!  And this sweater, by the way, is so soft and comfy for fall and winter!  I love the camel and blush colors in it too!

 

Pretty pumpkins adorn either end of my dresser and I love waking up and seeing them all each morning!

 

 

Each nightstand also has pink pumpkins.  I didn’t photograph my chaise lounge here in my bedroom!  But…there are some on my tray there too so I’ll need to update this post with a picture.  I just love the pumpkins!   I literally place them wherever I can in the bedroom and I’m so grateful my husband doesn’t mind all the pink because I sure enjoy it!

Lemons are so lovely, aren’t they?!  On a table, on a print, in a recipe…I just adore them.  I decided to set a lovely little lemon tablescape for my little family of four while it’s still summer.  This can very well take you into the fall and even be used at spring!

It all started with our usual Saturday trip to the local Farmers Market when I found this gorgeous flower farmer and these bright yellow blooms.  I hand picked a few different stems and asked them to put a bouquet together instead of pink roses or peonies or something I would usual buy.

I also picked up some lemons for my lemon curd parfait recipe and my homemade pink lemonade recipe and set most of them aside.  I sliced up a few for garnish and drinks.  I also pulled out the lemon napkins I bought earlier this spring that I used to serve my luscious lemon curd parfaits but I also wanted to use them for this tablescape.

This was such a simple tablescape to throw together and you can do it too!  You can pull out a white tablecloth if you’d like.  I pulled out these darling ruffle table runners that I already had and placed them across the table as shown.

I used these cute little faux lemons from a lemon stem I bought and also used for my pink lemonade outdoor tablescape for some girlfriends.  I loved getting more use out of them. They can also be put in a small bowl or apothecary jar for decor.

I already had these lovely chargers, gold flatware, goblets.

The lovely flowers and adorable lemons and napkins really stole the show but everything was so simple.  I made some lemonade and sliced the lemons for additional flavor or garnish.

With all of the beautiful sunlight coming in from our windows, it just made such a lovely and cheerful tablescape that took no time at all to put together!

You know I’m a pink girl and always have some pink in my kitchen but this yellow has been such a beautiful way to change things up and has brought such a smile to my face!

I wish you could all sit down at this lovely table and visit with me!  But since you can’t, please know that you can create the same or similar tablescape with almost no effort at all.  Try to use what you have but you can always buy cute accents and charming little lemon napkins to add a touch lemon.

Happy Friday!  Have you all enjoyed the Easter tours this week?  In case you missed them, I shared my Spring & Easter Mantel and also my Easter Table & Kitchen. Oh!  And if you didn’t see my Rain Gear Round-Up, it’s a must because there are so many cute pieces that I shared to keep you dry and stylish in the rainy spring season.  Ok, before the week is over, I had to share the easiest little project I did this last week.  After scouring the internet and so many stores for brass kitchen canisters, I came up with nothing.  So, I took matters into my own hands and here the DIY gold and glass canisters I ended up making (ok, hacking) for my kitchen.

I have always wanted large clear glass jars to fill with baking ingredients or other things but I don’t care for the ones with just glass lids.  My kitchen is so white, which I love, but I needed something with a brass lid to really make it pop.

I really like these canisters the most and they have a tight seal but they don’t come with brass or gold lids.

I chose them anyway and opted for the large 2-gallon size.  I also purchased some gold spray paint.

Let me be clear about one thing though….
ALL GOLD SPRAY PAINTS ARE NOT CREATED EQUAL!!
Don’t just pick any one and go with it.  Trust me!  When we lived back in Dallas and I spray-painted my barstools gold, I went through several colors.  They were too brassy or too green and muted or dried with bubbles.  There are only 2 gold spray paints that I love and use and they are THIS ONE and THIS ONE. Both Rust-oleum brands.

Make sure you spray the lids, one side at a time, turning them around and getting under the knob.  You’ll want to do a couple of coats.  Do NOT spray inside the lid!!!  You don’t want that smell in the canister or the paint rubbing off on the glass.

When they are completely dry, do a light coat of clear spray to protect the lids.  Let them dry overnight so that they completely harden.

Don’t they look great over there on the counter?!  Now let’s fill them!

I filled them with things we use most of….flour, sugar, and oats.  Plus, they’re all neutral.  I wouldn’t want to fill them with anything dark in color or super bright.

They are exactly what I wanted and what I was looking for, but couldn’t find.  Sometimes you just have to improvise.

The post DIY Gold & Glass Canisters For The Kitchen appeared first on Summer Adams.

Hello, friends!  I have a fun post for you today because I’m joining some fabulous blogger friends to share lots of awesome organizing tips for your home, sponsored by HomeGoods.  If you’re anything like me, HomeGoods is already like a 2nd home so I was excited to go grab a ton of great items I’d seen there to help me turn “the black hole” under the kitchen sink from a place where we just throw stuff into a beautifully-organized and functional space to be proud of.

I’m so mad that I forgot to get a “before pic” {face palm} but I can trust that you know exactly what I’m talking about when I say “messy”.  Most of us probably have this problem.  On the outside it looks beautiful and I found these lovely hand towels at HomeGoods.

But after grabbing a lot of different storage and organizational items, this is what it looks like now…

Ta-Daaaaaaa!

Seriously, our entire family really loves this space.
Ok, let me break it down and tell you what I used and what it’s used for.

First I should tell you, when I called this space “the black hole” before, it literally was because {since our sink faces the corner} there’s a hole in the back cut out in case we need to get to the plumbing against the wall.

I found these 2 darling little white cleaning caddies and knew they’d be perfect for all our sprays and cleaners.  I can even pick them up and take them around the house if needs be.

Underneath all the supplies you can see this pretty light blue and grey contact paper I found.  It was light and serene and was the perfect choice for a dark cabinet.

In the back, you can see the plastic grocery bag saver.  We needed that desperately!  Our other method didn’t work very well and it always led to the kids just tossing them under the sink.  Sheesh!  It drove me bonkers!

In the middle section, I found a white plastic tub that said “organization” on the end and wasn’t too high.  It was perfect for our garbage bags and some pet and carpet supplies, as well as my pink ruffle cleaning gloves, Swiffer duster handles, and dish scrubbers.

In the front, I grabbed 2 smaller OXO pop up canisters (I looooove these things!!) and they are so easy to just push and then they pop up so that you can get what’s inside.  No picking the entire canister up or twisting the top off is necessary.  I have borax in the left, which I use from time to time, and then in the right one I have placed those Lemon Shine pods (rinse agent).

The tall OXO canister has all of our dish detergent pods.  It’s been so nice to have these and be able to see how much is left and what needs to be put on my grocery list without picking anything up and shaking it or looking inside.  You can also label these, which I think I’ll make on my Silhouette machine since family will be visiting soon and will want to know what they contain.

Ok, for the fun part….

These stackable acrylic drawers come in twos.  I grabbed 2 units and put them on top of each other.  You could probably put a piece of double sided tape to keep them from moving or a dab of hot glue but I didn’t and they’re fine.  Guess where I found these?  In the makeup organizing area!  So this is what I have in the drawers:

1- Wet Ones packets that I can send with the kids in lunches or use at home for extra anti-bacterial help.

2- Sponges for the dishes in the back AND Magic Eraser pads in the front.

3- Disposable duster refills

4- Dry sweeping pads

I could label these but there’s really no reason.  You can see exactly what is inside each drawer.

One more look…..isn’t it great?!  It was so ridiculously easy!  Nothing is tipping over and spilling out, creating a huge mess.  I know what I have and what I don’t.  I know what amount I have of each product and if it needs to go on my grocery shopping list or not.  And, anyone visiting (i.e. babysitter, family, friends, house cleaner) can open the cabinet and know exactly what is there and find what they need with ease.

While I was at it, I found a couple of great storage items to organize Giorgio’s dog food and treats.  I like that they went with our kitchen so beautifully.  (Giorgio is our little 14 year-old Yorkshire Terrier.)

Are you counting down the days like I am?  Christmas is coming!!!  I still have so much to do.  We just moved into our new home that we finished building less than 6 weeks ago.  I’ve shared my Christmas entry, my Christmas living room, and even my blush pink Christmas tree in my office.  But today I’m so excited, as a group of my friends and I get together for our “Home For Christmas” tour this season, to share with you my pink Christmas kitchen!

When I designed this bright white kitchen, I knew it was necessary to help combat all the cloudy days we’d get here in the Pacific Northwest.  So I chose everything to be white and it is working out beautifully!  It’s the brightest space in our home and I love love love being in my kitchen. It’s a happy place.  So when it came time to decorating for Christmas, I knew I needed to add my favorite color pink to it and then it would be the happiest kitchen in the world, ha!  At least, to me it’s the happiest kitchen.

***funny side note: i was born on june 23rd which is national pink day. i love pink.*** 

When you read “Pink Christmas Kitchen” you may have worried that you were about to encounter a kitchen where it looked as if a bottle of Pepto Bismol threw up all over it.  Ha!  Nope, not here!

I just wanted hints of my favorite color, in a whimsical and soft way.  I’ve styled plenty of elegant and sophisticated spaces but I wanted something really fun and playful, as my kids are young, and yet still pretty in the kitchen.

We made gingerbread houses the other night.  They weren’t our usual gingerbread houses.  Those are normally multi-colored and fall apart while the kids are making them and we all get frustrated and end up eating the candy instead.  Please tell me you get it and you’re laughing with me!

Instead I bought 1 large pre-assembled  gingerbread house at Walmart.  It was a dream!  No collapsing? Yes please!  And then I made some light pink royal icing with just powdered sugar, water, and a teaspoon of corn syrup.

I found a cute glittered Nutcracker a few years ago and knew he’d be so cute right here next to my fresh pink roses and pink gingerbread house.

Last week I had my pink macarons on the counter but the gingerbread house was definitely more Christmas-y.

Along with the large gingerbread house, I also bought a small village.  I let the kids decorate a couple themselves and I decorated these 2 little ones to coordinate with my large one.  I’m no artist and my hand isn’t that steady but nevertheless, it was a lot of fun.  I’ve been so busy that it felt good to just sit and create something with my kids and have Christmas music in the background.

But this time we did something different.  These little ones weren’t pre-assembled so…..

…we used hot glue!!!

Don’t judge!  It’s life-changing!!!  Just for the structure and then we iced it like normal and used icing for the candy.  It was way more fun and the kids actually loved it!  Try it and tell me what you think!

I decided to grab my sparkly tree candles, my faux fur table runner, my other vase of pink roses, and created a nice little pink winter wonderland table.

The kids love it too.  Its wintery and whimsical but still beautiful.  I have a blush pink Christmas tablescape I want to share with you so make sure to come back for that, as I’ll share it in another post.
Side note: Have I mentioned how excited I am to plant roses and hydrangeas and peonies out that window this spring?  I heard you can plant pretty much anything here in the PNW and it’ll grow.  Can’t wait!

I found a simple white flocked wreath that went perfectly on my hood and then I added a light blush pink ribbon bow. I really wanted to keep it soft and simple.

On the other side of the kitchen I have apothecary jars with sugar-free gumballs and other candy (loaded with sugar).  For some reason, when I have it out I don’t want it.  When it’s hidden, I want to find it and eat a piece.  Is that backwards or what?!

And because once a year those peppermint marshmallows are sold at the supermarket, we buy those too and put them out.  We love them in hot cocoa!

There is no shortage of treats in my pink Christmas kitchen.  Christmas time is for baking, and I mean a lot of baking in this house!

We bake for neighbors and friends, teachers and co-workers and also for ourselves.  I love being in my kitchen.  I might have baked for 6 1/2 hours the other day (non-intentional) while watching Hallmark movies and eating a few as I went.  My feet were sore and my tummy hurt by dinner but it was oh so worth it!  Most of this occurred while Josh was at work and Brooklyn and Beckham were at school.  It was so fun!!  I need to do that more often, sans the eating 20 cookies part.  Ouch!

Fast-forward a few days later and we’re having a family Christmas movie night.  There is no shortage of sugar or treats in this household.  I’ve joked that I could be happily married to Buddy the Elf because I really do love sweets (just not maple syrup on spaghetti…ew).  We had “Pink Christmas Popcorn”.  I’ve made it for years but I just gave it a name.

I melt some white chocolate (and add pink dust for color) or melt pink candy melts, pour it over air-popped popcorn, and then mix it around while tossing in some of the pink peppermint marshmallows.  The kids go crazy over it.

And it’s so pretty too, don’t you think?

So I take it back. There might be Pepto Bismol here but it’s in the cupboard for
when you’re done eating all these sweets haha!

One more fun thing you’ll find in my Pink Christmas Kitchen….

While making pink snowflake cookies the other day, I also made more of these pretty star cookie mug huggers with my special cookie cutter.  Isn’t that fun?  I’ve done them in pink and white and they are so cute to put on the side of your mug or tea cup when enjoying a cup of hot cocoa or herbal tea, as we often do.  I took one up to my pink office the other day with a few cookies and finished a blog post on my blush pink Christmas tree and I swear it helped me work better (wink wink).

Welcome To Our Bright White Kitchen!

In this post, I shared our paint color.  We used Benjamin Moore “Gray Owl” at 50% and I absolutely love it. Cabinets and trim are also BM Ultra White.

I knew immediately that these gorgeous pendants were the ones I wanted for this kitchen.  They have a gorgeous champagne-gold finish and lantern style but also have that touch of glam with crystal chandelier prisms hanging from them.

If you were standing here next to me, I’d hand you a pink plate with fresh macarons from a local bakery and a cup of tea (or Diet Coke).

I knew I wanted an all-white kitchen since we were moving to the Pacific Northwest.

 I always thought I’d use marble.  But with lengths of time of cloudy skies, I wanted to design a kitchen with as much white as possible.  No grey at all.  I wanted light bouncing off of every white surface.

So to do that, I chose high-gloss textured subway tile (the pictures don’t do it justice because it’s so shiny and glossy and totally glam).  It measures 11 3/4” x 2 7/8.  I also used a pure white quartz called “White Zen” and pure white shaker cabinets.  I’m so pleased with how it all came together. It’s exactly what I wanted.

Back in Dallas last year, I wanted to bring more brass and gold to my kitchen so I sprayed these barstools with gold spray paint.  I’m still looking for permanent barstools that go well with my kitchen and the vintage dining set just adjacent, but until then, these will do just fine.

You can read all about our flooring here.  I absolutely love it!  It pulls out both greys and taupes and compliments them beautifully and doesn’t show every crumb.  Instead of a double-oven, we chose a microwave/oven package and it’s fabulous.

The thing I wanted most was to have a corner sink and a window to watch my kids play and look out at those tall trees that we fell in love with, moving from Texas to the Pacific Northwest.  I can’t wait till Spring comes to landscape the backyard and plant peonies, roses, hydrangeas and more.  What a sight that will be to look at while washing dishes!

I chose this gorgeous Cassidy Faucet and Air Gap.  The color is so gorgeous and goes beautifully with my hardware.

Partnering with Amerock & Choosing The Hardware

Earlier this year in March, I was at the Design Blog Conference in Beverly Hills and met some fabulous people from Amerock.  They showed examples of their hardware and I right away fell in love with these Champagne Bronze Cabinet Pulls and knew I wanted to use them in my bright white kitchen. I showed a preview of them in this previous post along with my other hardware I used in this home.

Choosing long lengths helped break up the white while not seeming to harsh. Aren’t they just lovely?!  I knew I wanted something with a satin finish.  Here are the 4 sizes I used:

My husband, Josh, was really nervous about “all the brass and gold in the kitchen”, he said.  Although I had already been decorating with brass and gold for the last few years, I think he had that old-style polished-brass-look in his mind and was nervous.  “Do you trust me?” I asked him.  His reply was yes.

The day we did a walk-through of the kitchen, his eyes lit up and his jaw dropped. “Wow!  This is really gorgeous and I love all this brass,” he said.  Mission accomplished!  I knew he’d love it.

I knew for sure that I wanted a garbage/recycling bin receptacle duo next to the sink. It’s been a brilliant choice, especially for chopping vegetables and fruits or preparing food.

I also chose this pot filler .  The style was the perfect companion to the faucet above.

I love having it for cooking!  It has made life for me a tad simpler and I’m grateful. It’s especially nice to not have to carry a heavy pot filled with water from the sink, as I have tennis elbow. Pain and spills averted!

Back to the hardware for a second, doesn’t it stand out beautifully without being tacky or obnoxious?  That’s what I was trying to explain to my husband in the beginning.  I knew it would look this lovely in person.  The glass cabinets were also helpful to break up all the white, and yet display my white china and serving pieces so elegantly.

That would lead me to another decision I made immediately…in this semi-custom home, I knew we HAD to take our white cabinets all the way to the top.  I wanted to break it up with glass cabinets along the top.  I also added canned lighting around the kitchen ceiling and over the sink.  We also upgraded to lighting under the cabinet, or task lighting, as it is called.  I love that at night.  I’m sharing a new option soon on how I’m lighting the small upper glass cabinets so stay tuned for that post and update to this post.

The section just right of my fridge would normally be a coffee station for most people but we always have a couple of apothecary jars with sugar-free pearlized white gumballs, chocolate kisses, and then our favorite electronic friend….Alexa!  We just put our black one upstairs in our bonus room and then purchased this new white version for our bright white kitchen.  She plays games with us, plays all of our music, sets multiple timers, calls or messages family and friends, orders things for us and even orders groceries for us.  We love her!  And then, the toaster and can opener go up there too and then put away.

We just love all the counter space!  I love having a large island for cookies and even Thanksgiving dinner last week!

Our bright dining space sits just off the kitchen, in an open-concept design.

We are so thrilled with this design!  I’m still not used to not having a formal dining room any more but builders are really doing away with that up here.

But we truly have all the room we need.  Oh, and do you notice that crystal chandelier made it to the final cut? Ha!  I almost didn’t bring it with us from Dallas but of ALL the hundreds, no – thousands, of chandeliers I looked at….I knew the romantic in me just HAD to have a crystal chandelier over my dining table.  It compliments the kitchen pendants, as well as the light fixture in our bright white living room, just perfectly.  And that big window….swoon!  It has my heart!

I love all the light, so I chose not to use any window treatments at all.  I want to stare at the tall trees, my {future} garden and landscape (even if the majority of our land is on the sides of the house haha), and this is also where we watch a gorgeous sunset every night.  We also see the same upstairs from our master bedroom and bath.  It’s soooo romantic!

Now, there’s a buffet (not pictured) and mirror behind the dining table but I’m waiting on some new handles and then I’ll share it with you next week.  And right now it’s getting turned into our “Hot Cocoa Bar”, so here’s a little preview!

Oh wait!  I forgot….Giorgio’s little area!  He has a charming little dining area too wink wink!

And of course, his treat jar had to match the kitchen since it stays on the counter.  He’s so silly to get treats all day but he maintains his little figure quite well so he still gets them all day….ha!

Thanks sooooo very much for coming by today and touring our bright white kitchen! We have said we’d stay here a few years, originally, and then do a custom home from the ground up (somewhere close by) and design it with my dad.  But gosh, I just love this bright white kitchen, our home, and the views.  I’m so looking forward to settling in here nicely and not even think about moving any time soon.

Hi friends!  Ok, I’ve been updating my Instagram stories with sneak peeks of the hardware I’m using in the new house. It’s been sooooo so fun to hear your reactions!  However, there have been so many messages and inquiries so I’m going to share a little preview of each space with the hardware on it and link them below.  I wanted to wait and share it in our reveal of each room but some of you are also in the middle of building and remodeling so I’m going to share them twice.  Here’s a sneak peak of my hardware at our new house, or “Tall Trees Lane” as we call it.

Bright White Kitchen

In my all-white kitchen, I’m using these beautiful bar pulls in Golden Champagne from Amerock.  I had measurements from my cabinet guy and designed the kitchen with 5 different sizes of pulls.

I didn’t want to use any knobs on the kitchen but they have coordinating ones if you want them. I’ll link them below as well.  If you aren’t wanting the same Golden Champagne finish, they also carry this pull in 6 other fabulous finishes.

Amerock has such gorgeous lines of different hardware.  I met them back at the Design Bloggers Conference this year and was really impressed with them. They’ve been amazing to work with and I highly suggest using them.  I’ll be sharing more of them and all this hardware next month in my kitchen reveal!

Guest Bathroom & Built-Ins

For our downstairs guest bathroom, I decided to keep a nice flow and use brass tones like I did in the kitchen.

I came across these gorgeous Lucite Brass pulls online but they were so darn expensive.  Some pulls were around $30 a piece.

I only needed 7 pulls but still…that was ridiculous.  So I kept searching and found the exact pulls for a way better deal HERE. 

Some of you have asked if they come in chrome also, so I’m going to link those for you below as well.

Master & Middle Bathrooms & Laundry Room

While doing brass hardware downstairs, I wanted to use all polished chrome hardware upstairs.  I was on Hardware Resources‘s website and found these gorgeous “Hayworth” polished chrome pulls that I used for the master bathroom, the kids’ bathroom, and in our laundry room.

Aren’t they stunning?!  I wanted them to go perfectly with the plumbing and mirrors and lighting.  It’s clean and bold.  I absolutely adore them.

The quality is amazing and I just loved working with Hardware Resources.  Please check them out also!  Although I used all 6″ pulls, I’ll link the pulls here below in a few different sizes.  They also come in a few different finishes.

The post A Sneak Peak Of My Hardware At Our New House appeared first on Summer Adams.

I can’t believe these words are going to leave my mouth but…..I disliked gold and brass until about 5 years ago!  {gasp!}  It’s true!  I only wore silver and I only had silver accents in my home.  And then things changed.  Gold made a comeback and all of my jewelry started to include a LOT of gold pieces.  And then this year…gold accents! I have started adding gold and brass to my kitchen and I’m going to show you how I’m doing it!

First off, if you are a regular reader and visitor here (thank you!!!) or follow me on Instagram you probably know that we’ve been moving around a lot with my husband’s company and have been renters.  Luckily, our next move is permanent.  Until then, we’ve had to find rentals that are nice and homes that we can easily make our own.  I change out all of the light fixtures and install my own chandeliers, paint walls if homeowner approves, and do what I can to make it feel like “home”.  While this home is not my favorite, it’s a great home in a really great neighborhood.  However, we don’t get a lot of natural sunlight toward the back half of the home AND the homeowner used a grey paint that I feel is just too dark for my liking.

I wrote a post about tips for brightening your home HERE, and these tips certainly help!  But alas, I’m going to paint my kitchen, nook and living room white I think…next week.  Those are the rooms on the back half of the home that feel like a dungeon at certain times of the day.  They even have a lot of windows…just not facing the right way.  I needed something BOLD to break up the monotony of grey and white.  It looked like a black and white film in this area haha!  I decided, instead of a pop of color (mostly because the grey is so much), I brought in some fabulous GOLD and BRASS accents.

First task, the barstools!  They were the silver industrial barstools that are very popular right now but I was getting so bored of them.  I happened upon these barstools somehow online a few weeks ago and knew that’s what I wanted!

They’re gorgeous and well-priced.  But I also don’t want to buy new furniture until our permanent move next year when we are in our new home.  So I went and bought a BUNCH of different gold spray paints and tried them out.  Ugh, I’ve done something like this before and remembered how hard it was to find the right gold. Some are too orange or brown or a funky brass look.  This one was too muted….

It’s a pretty gold and I love muted gold.  But NOT for this project.  Nope!

I actually used this same one (NOW I remember) on my fabulous IKEA hack coffee table shared HERE but I’m going to go back and use the new one (below) and go over it with this better gold.  I tried a BUNCH of others but THIS was the one!  You can see the other {muted} gold in the background and then the new Rustoleum metallic gold here.  The difference is much more noticeable in person. Note, they are both Rustoleum brand so you need to make sure you buy the green and white can with the gold metallic top.  And I suggest buying the 6-pack I linked below because you’ll definitely go through them all if you’re doing your bar stools and accent pieces.

Don’t they look great in my kitchen?!  It’s just what this kitchen needed and will look even prettier when I get rid of these dark grey walls (also darker in person….I’ve brightened the photo just a bit).

I removed the 80’s light fixture above the kitchen nook table (cringe) and installed this gorgeous Lillian Chandelier and then also did a “recess canned light to pendant light conversion” with THIS KIT and hung a matching chandelier above my kitchen island as well.  These Lillian Chandeliers are from Wayfair (sister company to Joss & Main) and they give just the touch of glam I needed here.

I originally wanted those gorgeous brass pendant lantern light fixtures that are so popular right now but I’m going to save them for my next home so that I have something to look forward to.  That is, unless my taste has changed by then ha!  It usually does, but we will see.

I grabbed my spray paint again and spray painted my paper towel holder and I love it!  The painting in the background is by yours truly (my first attempt at art in years so don’t judge haha) and I found this awesome vintage frame with the gold, ornate inner frame at a vintage shop in Downtown McKinney, Texas.

It flows well with the room off my kitchen, my living room, as I added gold in there as well (also getting painted white next week).

Since it’s fall, I added little white pumpkins to this gorgeous brass hurricane I found at Home Goods and it made for a gorgeous centerpiece coupled with these simple place settings of white and gold pieces.

This is where we eat dinner as a family most nights.  If we have company, and often do, we move into our formal dining room.

My bowl of fruit gets put in a lovely brass bowl with a couple of other fun coordinating pieces…

I swapped out a stainless steel holder to a brass lantern to hold some of my cooking utensils next to my stove.  You can get creative!  I love love love these new white and gold canisters from Global Amici, part of their new line just released. Look for these at Home Goods or I have linked them below for your shopping convenience.  There are four of them: flour, sugar, coffee and tea.  I separated mine.

So there you go!  I love the way this gold brought that WOW factor that this space needed.  I can’t wait to paint the walls white and then even add a pop of color after the holidays. I think it will be stunning!
