One of my favorite things about the holiday season is giving to others.  We give more of ourselves in time and in serving others in need, we pay for the people behind us in a drive-thru, we give more of our time to our families and celebrating in the festivities, we bake treats for our neighbors…the list goes on and on.  Some friends and I are sharing our DIY gifts ideas with you as part of the “Seasons Of Simplicity Tour – Christmas Series”, hosted by my friend Krista at The Happy Housie.  My gift idea is for the pink-loving baker.

While receiving is fun, I much more prefer to give gifts.  I really enjoy putting together thoughtful gifts over just buying something on a list and checking it off.  Of course, when I’m Christmas shopping or putting together any kind of gift, it’s always more fun when it’s something I would like and would want as well.  Clearly, from the picture above of me and Brooklyn, I love pink and I love to bake.  We both do.

This gift idea seems like the best idea because I know I’d be thrilled to receive it.  My favorite things in my kitchen are all the pretty things that I use to bake and cook with.
(I’ll link to all items used in this post or similar/suggested items below, in the “shop the post” section.)

So I figured I’d start with a pink mixing bowl, added a cute pink kitchen towel on the bottom (not shown) to prop all the items up, a pink rolling pin, pink whisks and measuring spoons and other pink kitchen utensils.  I also found some cute pink marble cupcake liners, some sparkly sugar sprinkles, pink macarons (these can be homemade or purchased from a bakery but I have a fabulous recipe HERE), a pink candle that looks like a macaron, a pink nutcracker since it’s Christmas and then…

…these printable recipe cards with a cute pink Kitchen-aid stand mixer on it.  It’s simple and adorable, useful and thoughtful, and I truly believe that any girl who loves pink and loves to bake will simply ADORE this gift!

**Idea!  You could also include (in pink) a hand mixer, stand mixer, pink ornaments, pink mixing spoons, pink pot holders, pink kitchen hand soaps/lotions, pink apron, pink cake stand or cupcake stand, pink pots and pans (if going for a larger gift idea – I especially like this idea for a newlywed or new homemaker), pink toaster, pink blender, pink coffee maker, and any other fun pink kitchen accessory or small appliance you can think of!  Does she not like pink? Do the gift in her favorite color!**

When we first moved into this home upon completion of the build last fall, we had the entire home painted the same color. It was easier that way and I truly didn’t know what I wanted for my office.  I finally put pieces together and revealed it in THIS POST.  It was lovely.  But something felt off….I knew what it was.  I needed to paint the walls a blush pink.  So I hired a painter and switched a few things up.  So here is my updated glam office reveal with blush pink walls.

Ok the “before” pics:

Again…it was lovely!  But if you know me and have followed me for a while….I LOVE PINK!!!!

Did you know I was actually born on National Pink Day?  Yep!  June 23rd and I just celebrated my 40th!  Ok, moving on….

The Blush Pink Paint Color I Chose:

I literally went through 15 samples of all shades of blush pink paint, of all different brands.  I went with my very first choice, oddly enough.  I found it at Lowe’s and it is called “Romance”, HGTV HOME by Sherwin Williams.  The code is: HGSW2067.
BUT!!!!  I had it mixed at 50%.
I did this with my other interior paint color throughout my home as well.

Even the ones that my friends swore by just didn’t look right in this office.  You have to remember that paint can look good on one wall but then if you put it on other walls in a different part of your home, it can look totally different. It might face the sun differently or the landscaping outside could have colors that reflect on the walls and make the color appearance vary as well.  The time of day, the interior decor, the season, etc.  There are so many factors.  So you just have to try different colors out and look at them in that space at different times of the day before making a decision.

There are 6 simple things I changed and updated for this office reveal.

ONE – Obviously, I painted the interior.

TWO – I swapped the desk and the cabinet and put them at the opposite sides of the room.  That way I could see my family coming and going easier and know what the kids are up to.

And if you watched my Instagram stories last month, I took out the middle leg because it didn’t do much but was an eye sore to look at.  Instead, I attached 2 small L-brackets to the wall and desk underneath for extra support and to keep it steady while working, typing, writing.

THREE -I added a gallery wall above the cabinet.

It took me FOREVER to figure out what I was doing here.  I looked at a ton of art but I have a lovely piece of canvas art on the other side of the room.  I already have a mirror.  I thought a gallery wall would be fun but I wanted it symmetrical and not too busy and cluttered or busy looking.  I also thought about a mood board but worried about the same previous dilemmas.

I included places of travel I love, fashion I love, and other pretty things.  The best part is that I can swap them out whenever I want.  Just like a mood board. I can frame things that inspire me.  I love that it’s symmetrical and clean-looking.

FOUR –  I swapped out my blush satin homemade curtains for pleated tab ivory curtains.

FIVE – I replaced the gold distressed mirror for a stunning venetian mirror.

SIX – I sold the infamous blush chair and found a new pretty one!

It physically pained me to sell my blush chair but blush on blush was not going to happen.  I was looking for something white and glam and the same style as the last one.  Remember….it looked like this…

So I looked and looked and I came across this sexy Hollywood Glam Tufted Acrylic White Club Chair from Decor Market.

They were kind enough to send it to me and help me get the look I had been envisioning for this space.  This is where my family comes in and sits and talks to me while I work.  Many memorable conversations happen right here and I love it.

Don’t you love those legs?!  This chair and mirror really took this sitting area to the next level and was even more sophisticated than the last.  I love it!  Please check out Decor Market for the most fabulous and affordable furniture!

Everything else stayed the same in the office!  The IKEA shelves, the office accessories, the art and sconces above my desk, the rug, the chandelier, round end table, and etagere end tables.  See my previous office blog post for any other details.

Hello, friends!  I’m so excited to have you here today!  We are gathered again, as a group of bloggers, to bring all of you some fabulous spring recipes.  Not only are they all delicious, but they are so beautifully presented and would be a hit at any of your spring events.  Make sure to pin all these recipes to Pinterest so that you have them saved!  Today I’m sharing my Pink Lemonade Chiffon Naked Cake with you and, from a person who is extremely picky about cake recipes, I can assure you that it is a must-try recipe.

My 12 year-old daughter, Brooklyn, and I decided we wanted to make a naked cake together and share it with you today.  Funny thing though….we both don’t “love” just a traditional cake and frosting recipe.  We are really picky.  She requests Tres Leches cake on her Birthday and, if I make a cake at home, it has to be one of the really fabulous cake recipes that are in our family. That being said, I remember making a really really good cake a few years ago (and it’s from a box) and that’s the one I’m sharing with you today.

Pink Lemonade Chiffon Naked Cake Recipe

Ok so 2 things…
If you aren’t a huge lemon person you can still add the lemonade and it will be almost undetectable in the batter but truly makes it delicious and it’s necessary.

But if you like the lemon…this is a lemonade cake after all…you will need to add some lemon zest into both the batter and the frosting.  I didn’t use it in the frosting this time, since I didn’t want it to ruin the look of my naked cake.

Ingredients
2 boxes of Betty Crocker White Cake Mix
2 1/2 cups pink lemonade
2/3 cup vegetable oil
6 eggs, separating with whites reserved
3 Tbsp lemon zest
1/2 tsp cream of tartar

Frosting
1 1/2 cups butter, room temperature
7- 8 cups powdered sugar
1/2 cup pink lemonade
1 Tbsp lemon juice
*1 Tbsp lemon zest (I did not use it in this recipe)
*food coloring (optional and I did not use it in this recipe.  I recommend pink though if you’re not doing a naked cake.)

Cake Instructions:

•Preheat oven to 350°
•Spray 3, 8″ cake pans generously with baking spray, set aside
•In bowl or stand mixer, mix on low speed cake mix as box instructs but SUBSTITUTING WATER FOR PINK LEMONADE.  So, do not use the water!!!
•Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add in the egg yolks, oil, pink lemonade and 2-3 drops of food coloring if desired. Beat mixture on medium high for 3 minutes, scraping sides as needed.
•In a separate mixing bowl combine egg whites and cream of tartar and beat on high speed until stiff peaks form, will take a few minutes.
•Fold egg whites into the cake batter and divide equally into the 3 prepared pans.
•Bake for 27-30 minutes, checking at 27 min.
•Cool in pans for 10 minutes and then remove from pans and transfer to wire rack to cool completely.

Next….
•With parchment paper in between layers, freeze the 3 cakes for a few hours.

•Remove from freezer and, using a serrated bread knife, cut off the top rounded part of the cake to make it flat.  SAVE your scraps of cake because if you cut the cake unevenly, which we happen to this time to one of the cakes, you can take a thin part to put on the lower side so that the cakes will stack evenly and not be lopsided.

•Split a large piece of parchment or wax paper in half and put on top of the cake stand and then place the first cake on top of it.
•Fill large pastry bag (or a Ziplock bag is just fine) with frosting and generously squeeze in a spiral pattern on top of the cake.
•Place next cake on top and repeat last step with frosting and then place the last cake on top.
•Generously apply frosting to very top layer of the cake.

•Fill in uneven parts of cake layers with more frosting and all the way out to the very edge of cake.

•Take a large scraper to scrape along the outside of the cake as you turn the cake stand.  You’ll probably need to pipe more frosting along the “naked” parts of the cake, as to get frosting on every part of the outer edge of the cake.

•Continue scraping until you get it how you want it, removing any crumbs in-between scraping.

This is when you carefully remove each side of the paper from underneath the cake and discard it.  And THAT is how you keep your cake plate clean and ready for decorating.  My mom taught me this trick years ago and it’s never failed me.

Grab a bunch of fresh flowers to decorate your cake.  I happened to have several different bunches of fresh flowers….pink roses, pink carnations, and pink spray roses.

I garnished the bottom side of cake with the flowers and also plastic faux greenery that I washed and dried and clipped to size.

I created a similar but larger arrangement on the opposite side on top.

I’m so pleased with how it turned out.

Now, can we talk about how cute this top is?

I recently discovered Elizabeth Wilson Designs, a lover of gingham, ruffles and a touch of whimsy!  I fell in love with so many pieces in her collection immediately and was thrilled to receive her Katherine Top in pink gingham!  With the high ruffle-neck and bell sleeves, I mean….she was speaking my love language when she designed this top.  It’s classy, fun, flattering, and just perfect for the spring!

As pretty as this cake was, my family couldn’t wait to tear into it.

We may or may not have come home around noon from church and had cake for lunch….and ice cream.  Yes, I broke a rule and it was so worth it.  All 4 of us enjoyed every single bite!  This cake is just delicious!

Just a couple of weeks ago, a handful of my new girlfriends suggested we get together and have a girls night.  Instead of going out, I invited them to my home for a more relaxed evening where we could just talk and get to know each other better, since I’m still relatively new here.  We had such a fun time and I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to share with you my tips for hosting the perfect Girls’ Night In.

It’s no secret that I love pink.  I talk about it all the time.  So I had all things pink on hand and brought them out just before my friends arrived.

Popcorn.
It’s one of my favorite snacks that you can just sit and eat handfuls of while talking for hours.  I prefer to grab my cute pink popcorn popper and air-pop my own popcorn.  It’s so much tastier than the packaged stuff.  Plus, you can add your own variations like sea salt, cinnamon and sugar, kettle corn, candied popcorn, and more.

Years ago I purchased these cute pink-striped popcorn boxes for Brooklyn and her friends when they came over and some blue ones for Beckham and his friends.  I love having them on hand all the time for impromptu get-togethers.  They’re so inexpensive that you can buy them in a variety of colors to have on hand and then there are not multiple hands (and germs) grabbing for popcorn over and over from the same bowl.

Fresh Flowers.
Since I grab fresh flowers every week, I had these pretty pink roses already on this vase.  These were actually 2 weeks old and going strong so all I grabbed that morning was some Baby’s Breath and stuck them in the vase and removed a few dead roses.  It was a perfect combo because the Baby’s Breath looks like popcorn too, doesn’t it?!

Chocolate.
Women and chocolate go together like cereal and milk.  I love simple chocolate Hershey’s Kisses or Dove Chocolates and I love sweets in general.  So grab some candy and you can even buy the bulk candy in the color you want. I always like to display them in cute apothecary jars.  Several women brought cookies and other snacks to share as well.  I highly suggest my favorite sugar cookie recipe with pink frosting!  It’s the BEST!  If I’d had more time, I would’ve made those as well.

Drinks.
We all like different drinks.  I grabbed everything pink from my pantry like this Lacroix and Pink Lemonade and Rose Lemonade.  But then I also busted out the Diet Cokes and syrups and made “Dirty Diet Cokes” and “Southern Gentlemen” (that recipe coming soon).  A pretty pink cake stand can be a darling way to display cups or any other sweets.

They’re all non-alcoholic and all delicious.  They’re also pretty and go with my pink things perfectly.  I also keep a ton of cute straws on hand at all times.  I have every color and every seasonal design, ha!  I can never pass them up in a store!

Now all you need are cute pajamas (so I’ll link my favorites below), good company, and you’re set!

Are you counting down the days like I am?  Christmas is coming!!!  I still have so much to do.  We just moved into our new home that we finished building less than 6 weeks ago.  I’ve shared my Christmas entry, my Christmas living room, and even my blush pink Christmas tree in my office.  But today I’m so excited, as a group of my friends and I get together for our “Home For Christmas” tour this season, to share with you my pink Christmas kitchen!

When I designed this bright white kitchen, I knew it was necessary to help combat all the cloudy days we’d get here in the Pacific Northwest.  So I chose everything to be white and it is working out beautifully!  It’s the brightest space in our home and I love love love being in my kitchen. It’s a happy place.  So when it came time to decorating for Christmas, I knew I needed to add my favorite color pink to it and then it would be the happiest kitchen in the world, ha!  At least, to me it’s the happiest kitchen.

***funny side note: i was born on june 23rd which is national pink day. i love pink.*** 

When you read “Pink Christmas Kitchen” you may have worried that you were about to encounter a kitchen where it looked as if a bottle of Pepto Bismol threw up all over it.  Ha!  Nope, not here!

I just wanted hints of my favorite color, in a whimsical and soft way.  I’ve styled plenty of elegant and sophisticated spaces but I wanted something really fun and playful, as my kids are young, and yet still pretty in the kitchen.

We made gingerbread houses the other night.  They weren’t our usual gingerbread houses.  Those are normally multi-colored and fall apart while the kids are making them and we all get frustrated and end up eating the candy instead.  Please tell me you get it and you’re laughing with me!

Instead I bought 1 large pre-assembled  gingerbread house at Walmart.  It was a dream!  No collapsing? Yes please!  And then I made some light pink royal icing with just powdered sugar, water, and a teaspoon of corn syrup.

I found a cute glittered Nutcracker a few years ago and knew he’d be so cute right here next to my fresh pink roses and pink gingerbread house.

Last week I had my pink macarons on the counter but the gingerbread house was definitely more Christmas-y.

Along with the large gingerbread house, I also bought a small village.  I let the kids decorate a couple themselves and I decorated these 2 little ones to coordinate with my large one.  I’m no artist and my hand isn’t that steady but nevertheless, it was a lot of fun.  I’ve been so busy that it felt good to just sit and create something with my kids and have Christmas music in the background.

But this time we did something different.  These little ones weren’t pre-assembled so…..

…we used hot glue!!!

Don’t judge!  It’s life-changing!!!  Just for the structure and then we iced it like normal and used icing for the candy.  It was way more fun and the kids actually loved it!  Try it and tell me what you think!

I decided to grab my sparkly tree candles, my faux fur table runner, my other vase of pink roses, and created a nice little pink winter wonderland table.

The kids love it too.  Its wintery and whimsical but still beautiful.  I have a blush pink Christmas tablescape I want to share with you so make sure to come back for that, as I’ll share it in another post.
Side note: Have I mentioned how excited I am to plant roses and hydrangeas and peonies out that window this spring?  I heard you can plant pretty much anything here in the PNW and it’ll grow.  Can’t wait!

I found a simple white flocked wreath that went perfectly on my hood and then I added a light blush pink ribbon bow. I really wanted to keep it soft and simple.

On the other side of the kitchen I have apothecary jars with sugar-free gumballs and other candy (loaded with sugar).  For some reason, when I have it out I don’t want it.  When it’s hidden, I want to find it and eat a piece.  Is that backwards or what?!

And because once a year those peppermint marshmallows are sold at the supermarket, we buy those too and put them out.  We love them in hot cocoa!

There is no shortage of treats in my pink Christmas kitchen.  Christmas time is for baking, and I mean a lot of baking in this house!

We bake for neighbors and friends, teachers and co-workers and also for ourselves.  I love being in my kitchen.  I might have baked for 6 1/2 hours the other day (non-intentional) while watching Hallmark movies and eating a few as I went.  My feet were sore and my tummy hurt by dinner but it was oh so worth it!  Most of this occurred while Josh was at work and Brooklyn and Beckham were at school.  It was so fun!!  I need to do that more often, sans the eating 20 cookies part.  Ouch!

Fast-forward a few days later and we’re having a family Christmas movie night.  There is no shortage of sugar or treats in this household.  I’ve joked that I could be happily married to Buddy the Elf because I really do love sweets (just not maple syrup on spaghetti…ew).  We had “Pink Christmas Popcorn”.  I’ve made it for years but I just gave it a name.

I melt some white chocolate (and add pink dust for color) or melt pink candy melts, pour it over air-popped popcorn, and then mix it around while tossing in some of the pink peppermint marshmallows.  The kids go crazy over it.

And it’s so pretty too, don’t you think?

So I take it back. There might be Pepto Bismol here but it’s in the cupboard for
when you’re done eating all these sweets haha!

One more fun thing you’ll find in my Pink Christmas Kitchen….

While making pink snowflake cookies the other day, I also made more of these pretty star cookie mug huggers with my special cookie cutter.  Isn’t that fun?  I’ve done them in pink and white and they are so cute to put on the side of your mug or tea cup when enjoying a cup of hot cocoa or herbal tea, as we often do.  I took one up to my pink office the other day with a few cookies and finished a blog post on my blush pink Christmas tree and I swear it helped me work better (wink wink).

It’s no secret…..I love pink.  People tell me all the time that when they see something beautiful that’s pink or sparkles, they think of me.  I just love that.  My birthday is June 23rd and guess what day that is also?  National Pink Day!! I mean, does God know me or what?! Ha! I think he has a fun sense of humor.  And remember the movie “Steel Magnolias”?  When I first saw it at age 11 (along with a room full of sobbing tweens at my birthday slumber party in 1989 lol), my eyes lit up as Shelby said, “Pink is my signature color.”  I knew she was a kindred spirit because I felt the same way.  Then what did she say? “My colors are blush and bashful.”  I just LOVED that.  And ever since, one of my favorite shades of pink has been blush.  Well guess what?  Today I’m sharing some FABULOUS blush furniture and decor with you!

I totally missed November’s Favorite Things….EEK!!!!! So, let’s not waste any time and get right to December’s!

I was looking for some fun, new, warm, flannel pj’s last week while in Nordstrom Rack and “Aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!!!!!” (that is the sound of angels singing haha)  There they were!  An adorable set of grey flannel pajamas with hot pink lips and piping and buttons by PJ Salvage!  Oh, and they were the last ones AND in my size!  Meant to be?  I think so!  They are hard to find online but definitely try your local Nordstrom Rack.  There are these on eBay and elsewhere also if you’re looking for these exact ones.  They run true to size and I wear the size small.  Love love love them!!

While at the Sprint Store and upgrading my iPhone a while ago, I found this adorable Kate Spade Bow iPhone lightning charger!!  Pink, bow, Kate Spade, purposeful…..enough said.  It’s the perfect gift.

Bath & Body Works is always a great go-to for fun creams and scents.  I loved this Twisted Peppermint Ultra Shea Buttercream right away NOT ONLY because it is pink, but because it has a nice mixture of peppermint, vanilla, balsam and light musk.  And I don’t normally like anything musky.  But I LOVE this!!

Every girl needs a great makeup bag!!!  I bought this extra large one (pictured above) at Home Goods one day in the checkout aisle and don’t see it online anywhere.  But there are some other really cute ones I love HERE, HERE and HERE!  Soooooo fun!!!  I love changing out my makeup bags like I do my purses!

This might seem silly to some, but this photography backdrop (below) that comes with a stand is just AWESOME for taking product pics and own a small business. Or, maybe you just want to take some fun pics for your instagram or other social media outlets. It even fits on a tabletop. Brilliant!

And lastly….all this sun-in-my-eyes before I want to wake up is NOT going over well with me!  Not at all.  Especially now that soccer season has ended and I just wanna sleep in a little on a Saturday morning!  I love my Victoria Secret soft pink sleep mask (pictured above) but you can find really cute ones HERE or at Victoria Secret!

I love August!  My skin is tanner and while I don’t bake out in the sun with baby oil (stupid stupid stupid) like my teenage years, my skin looks sun-kissed and I feel like putting on bold and bright colors.  I love this fun “Barbie Pink” color, as I call it.  I put this shirt on and headed to San Francisco for a couple of days with my kiddos to show them the city that I loved to play in as a kid.  Soooo many great memories!  Wearing a few of my new favorite things so I thought I’d share!

I purchased the shirt from Old Navy and it’s the perfect light-weight cotton button-up shirt so that I could keep cool.  The lipstick is one of my all-time faves by MAC called “St. Germain”.  I only wear it in the summer when I have some color  My earrings were gifted to me by Heather, my very best friend, and are the Kate Spade Multi-color Irradescant Faceted Square Stud Earrings.  Ummm…can I tell you how obsessed I am with them?!!!  They are soooo sparkly, which you don’t see in the picture, and look fabulous with so many of my bright shirts.    Of course, I still love my Juicy Couture Crown Gold Chain Necklace from my friends as a going away gift when we left Texas.  I have the matching bracelet and they are such a fun staple in my wardrobe.  This Dutch Braid across my forehead was the perfect way to keep my hair out of my face in that windy city, while riding bikes cable cars up and down the steep roads.

As for the rest of my makeup…I have found some new favorites that have been life-changing!! I’m not exaggerating.  While the summer allows me the chance to be more bronzed, my white spots on my face come out of hibernation and are noticable.  Sun damage.  It’s an ugly thing. And turning 37 this summer has introduced some new fine lines.  Fun stuff {insert sarcasm}.  But my sister convinced me, after working for Shiseido many years, that the Japanese know skin care better than anyone and I needed to try their products.  So I finally I purchased their water-resistant foundation and WOW!  I was already sold after that.  But it gets better…. Then I applied the pressed powder and I looked almost flawless. Make sure to use the wedges to apply the powder because it s you the best coverage when applied.  Dab it on. Their new concealer is like a magic wand!  I dab it on the white spots on my face where I’ve lost  The melanin in my skin where I have lost my melanin.   I follow it up with dad being the foundation sponge just over those spots again, as to not caking on too much powder.   I’m telling you… It’s like magic!  The best coverage I’ve had in a long time!

Now,  their skin care is out of this world and worth every penny so I highly recommending starting with that. They also introduced a new ice year and just recently that has made all the difference for me. Between my age and moving to Las Vegas last year where it is very dry, I feel like my eyes  are full of fine lines that I have not seen before and need the moisture so badly. I have not found an eye serum or cream that I have loved until now.  There eye serum feels like velvet and just hydrates and feels heavenly.   Their facial serum is also to die for.   Again, worth every penny!   Even if you love what you are using now, it’s probably not that great for your skin. Just because it has good coverage doesn’t mean it’s good for your skin. But Shiseido is a product that will give you both good skin and good coverage.  (NOTE:   Shiseido is not sponsoring or paying me to write this article. It is totally written from heart and because of my own experience with it.)

My all-time favorite eyebrow kit is the Anastasia Dip Brow (blonde) with the brow powder.  Love it!!  Especially since my eyebrows no longer grow and I have to fill them in and create the shape each day.
